Vehicle Detail

1970 California Beetle Convertible This car was restored from the ground up and body removed from chassis during restoration. The engine was recently rebuilt and has only test run time of maybe 30 minutes. 1600cc dual port The tranny, clutch, pressure plate and throw out berring all replaced NEW! The interior has re-upholstered seats that are Volkswagen pattern and fit , new carpet and door panels The Convertible top is brand new and is pin point vinyl as original The paint is a deep Red and is also new and we will get to the wood below. This has good tires and original chrome VW rims with center hub caps. The brakes ,steering and all suspension parts were checked and replaced if needed and is lowered. Above is a break down of the 70 beetle convertible in general but this is a custom hand layed and hand steamed to form Real Wood 1970 Beetle Woody Convertible and this is a Real Convertible and all Vin's match and I had it checked before I built it and was verified by the California DMV and there is a clear California title . This is not a plastic sticker that you find on the pt cruisers or the mid 80's station wagons . This is real dark walnut and trimmed with pine and has a polyurethane weather protectant sealer and a clear coat to protect it from the sun UV's . There has been hundreds of hours of work and the pan was removed from the body and it was rust free so we undercoated the entire inside for protection for many years down the road. We started with a Rust Free 1970 beetle convertible and there is many modifications and was built to look exactly as it does. We did not build this to be a show car rather it was built to get many looks and someone to have lots of fun with it . So if you are expecting perfection this one isn't for you but do not get me wrong . The whole chassis including brakes has been painted gloss black , the transmission is new as well as the motor is highly detailed and all and all I would not hesitate to join in any Volkswagen cruises or shows . I can not drive it around the block without out getting thumbs up or people commenting how cool it is. So it is no slouch either but I do not like the word "show car" as it has different meaning for different people. This Beetle was built to be driven and enjoyed. It has a very good 1600 cc motor and a top of the line Weber 2 bbl carburetor . Now so I don't get myself in trouble I was told when I bought the motor it was a 1776 and only test miles on the motor but we will just call it a 1600 and runs great with a standard 4 speed transmission. Ok to sum this up so when the auction is over everybody know exactly what they bought and I am paid promptly. You are not buying a perfect car and I am not selling one. It is 40 years old and most of the parts are original to the car or are original Volkswagen . It does have a bug pack shifter and I am sure I am missing odds and ends so drop me a line if you see something you need clarified or want better pictures, close up or video. I am very easy to deal with and all I ask is to be paid within 72 hours of end of auction. Please check out my feedback and you will see. I have sold several beetle convertibles in the past and the feedback speaks for itself as I do as I say and I expect no less from the buyer. I only require a phone call after auctions end letting me know your intentions and when you plan on paying for and picking up the car or if you need help with a shipper. I do get a small discount with a shipping company but again all costs are at buyers expense . There is no reserve so winning bidder owns the car.The car is 40 years old and being sold as is. If you have to ask permission from the bank, your mother or the man if the moon please refrain from casting any bids, also time for inspections are prior to auctions end and should be in person or hire a independent inpection so there isnt any isses after auctions end. You are not required to but it is suggested with such a unique and one of a kind car. Be prepared to handle all Bank wires or Certified Checks and of course if coming in person with cash make sure you can finalize the transaction in the 72 hours or 3 days from auctions end. and no other payment method is offered then what is stated in this ad.The title will be sent by USPS and if coming in person I will meet you at the local DMV and all changes of ownership will be taken care of before the car leaves my property. California buyers there is no smog required for 74 and back vehicles so all you are responsible for is putting it in your name. I know of no accidents or damage of any kind and the front and rear aprons were nearly flawless before restoration was started. We will have more pictures and Video of all aspects of this cars underside, body off pan, close up of transmission and clutch, engine running, suspension and brakes and a walk around and a drive through the park all on video for you to view and we encourage all to take the time to view. Good luck to all and happy bidding! Number 1 Question: Is there a buy it now? Answer : No , this is going No Reserve. Final bid owns the car no complaints , no regrets from buyer or seller. Number 2. Question: What are you asking for the car or what are you trying to get? Answer: As much as possible. Number 3 Question: I see the gas lid is not on the passenger side ? Answer : It has been moved to resemble the early 60's model and gas neck has been professionally modified and everything works exactly as it should and no different then the 60's models that you had to lift the hood to fill the gas tank. This was done for a smooth look. Number 4. Question,: I notice the rear fenders appear to be 73 and up? Answer :Yes, I like the long look of the 60's model beetles and the rear look of the super beetles . Number 5. Question : Is there anything done to the car that is irreversable , in other words 20 years from now I no longer want the woody look , can I restore it back to original type condition? Answer: Yes! This is the best part of this car . Unlike others that have had suicide doors, shortened or like one woody I have seen where the guy used 2 inch hardwood flooring and drilled holes through every inch of the car . There is nothing that has been modified that can't be reversed. We used original molding holes for the trim where possible . There is no holes through the middle of the doors or the quarters. Number 6. Question: I know you won't give out what it is worth or what you want for it or add a buy it now but how much would it cost to build another Woody just like this? Answer : No ,I do not want to put a price on my beloved Woody . That is for the bidders/buyers to determine . As far as what it would cost to build something like this , that depends if you did it yourself or had a shop do it. If you had a shop do it , if they would even do it is the hardest part . A good carraige shop who specialize in wood would charge a minumin of $120.00 an hour and this took hundreds of man hours. Next what kind of wood did you use? We used Dark Walnut which is one of the more expensive woods out there and trimmed it in Pine. So to answer the question , it depends on the quality of wood and it depends if you do it yourself or hire it done .Next you would have to find the rust free body that could run you $2,000 to $3,000.00 if you can find one and three thousand or more to restore the chassis ,motor, tranmission and labor .A good decent paint job with little to no body work would run you at least $1,000.00 and up . Interior and convertible top and other small items can run you another $2,500.00 if you have it all done by a shop. So you can add it up for yourself , even if this was bought in parts and you did it yourself , it could run you easily over ten thousand. I hope that helps Number 7. Question : You say you have done all this work . Is there any restoration pictures showing all the work that was done? rust free body, chassis , etc. And has this car ever been in any Volkswagen car shows , magizine or been a cover car for a VW magizine or ever been shown and if so has it won anything? Answer: This car is a fresh build and I have restoration pictures and video that you can download and keep . Also the car has never been on the circuit and never been in a magizine but we are taking it this weekend to a local car show and it will be the first time out in public other then around the block or though the park close to home. Number 8. Question: I see the starting bid is only $200, are you saying you will sell this car for only $200 if that is what it ended at and you guarantee all bidders you wont sell localy or end the auction if bidding doesnt go where you thought it would? Answer: Yes it will sell to highest bidder and yes this auction will not be ended for any reason no matter what. These are questions you may have and if I didnt answer your question feel free to drop me a line . Thank you in advance for your interest and all who took the time to read entire ad and check out all pictures and video.
