Vehicle Detail
I am listing this loved and babied 55 for my good friend Jim. I will be glad to get answers to emails or you can call him directly at 509 993-5164. I know this car well and can verify his following description is accurate. If I could buy it, it wouldn't be here. The car is 1 hour east of the Spokane International Airport and inspections are welcome. "I was 37 years old when I found this 1955 Chev Belair hardtop that I couldn’t afford in 1955. It was an original California dry, rust-free car and I purchased it from the original owner. The car was all original with black paint that had faded from the sun. I didn’t have the time or money to restore the car the way I wanted to at that time, so I stored it in the climate controlled basement of my home, along with 8 other cars, for 25 years. I started restoration on the car in 2000. It was a body-on restoration as the car needed little metal or body attention. All of the wheel bearings, seals, brakes and suspension were replaced and updated. The radiator is a new four core with an electric fan. The motor is a small block 400, bored 30 over, 10.5 pistons balanced, oversized valves, 3 angle valve job. It has pocket ported heads, snyder hydraulic cam, melling oil pump, hooker headers, Edelbrock dual 4 manifold with Edelbrock 600 carbs, HEI distributor, built turbo 350, heavy clutches and sprag. New u joints and rebuilt rear end, 370 ratio, not a locker. The car will never race the quarter mile but is a handful on the street. I leaded the hood, trunk and door handles so that it would be like the 50’s cruisers we used to have. Yes, that's real, old school lead, not plastic filler. The car was lowered with 14” wheels only. The interior on the car was professionally custom tailored with soft, high quality black material. It has narrow tuck and roll with purple piping for accent. The interior, trunk, doors, headliner and carpeting were all done completely. The bumpers were rechromed but the stainless on the body trim is all original. It has dual exhaust and the underside was completely detailed and painted and has much chrome. This was truly a labor of love. Nothing was spared when building this car. It is the straightest, finest 1955 Chevy that you will ever find. The two things that didn’t get done were power steering and air conditioning. The car drives perfect and only has 1,398 miles on it since the restoration. Total original miles are 90,000. There are absolutely no disappointments. I am now 72 years old and the car was adult owned and operated all of its life. I was offered $65,000 for the car five years ago but was not ready to sell. I know that the market is way down on classic cars right now so I am offering it for $38,000 with no reserve. This car is for sale!!"
