Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a very rare factory-built Avanti-Powered 1963 Studebaker Cruiser. Yes, this lark was factory built with the high-performance Jet-Thrust R1 engine. According to the Jet Thrust roster, only 104 were built, and this is one of 9 Studebaker 1963 R1 powered Cruisers surviving. This unique low production car, has the performance Studebaker R1 Avanti engine, Liquid-cooled HD automatic, TT (posi-trac) 44 rear axle, Power disc brakes, and Power Steering. Just imagine yourself sitting in the driver’s seat at a red light, watching the factory tachometer, ready to blow the doors off your opponent’s car. This isn’t your grandmother’s Studebaker. This car was originally special-ordered and shipped to Killeen, Texas. It did not come up to Michigan/Indiana until the late 1980's, and has always been a ‘collector car’ since then. It's a very solid car with no rust holes or rot. The factory original floors are nice. The correct matching number #JT1796 R1 engine runs great, and has excellent hot idle oil pressure. Has the correct HD automatic with external cooler lines to the radiator. Has the factory power disc brakes, they work and have about $600 worth of rebuild parts in them. Runs and drives good, but tires are bias ply and old. The previous owner had custom large-diameter dual exausts mandrel-bent from the manifolds back. Unfortunately, the mufflers terminate forward of the rear axle. The rear axle is a TT (positrac) model 44, as the build sheet specified. Original dash is very good, and has the factory tachometer in the center of the gauge panel. The seats were NOS I put in it. Yes, complete NOS seats, not covers, the whole seats. Got them back when Newman-Altman/SASCO was still in business. The door panels are decent, headliner needs repair but is original and ‘there’. The paint on the car is old and faded, likely polish up some but would need a repaint to be show-perfect. The trunk has had some old repair work, but it’s very solid. All the lights work, always starts, etc. It's a nice original car that has just been maintained and fixed, but never restored. See a scan of the original built sheet in the uploaded pictures. I just have too many cars and have decided that I need to part with something. If you have any further questions feel free to email. My reserve is set much below what I have into it. Mileage is approximate. No, I will not sell the engine separately. If you want the engine, it comes with the car. Car must be picked up within 35 days of receiving cleared payment. Payment only by cash, money order, or bank cashier’s check. If paying by other then cash, payment must clear before car is released. I am located near 49677 if you care to get shipping quotes. Sold as-is, no warranties or promises are expressed or implied.
