Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is this ALL ORIGINAL solid and rust free 1966 Cadillac Sedan Deville. Me and my wife were on an antiquing expedition in the North Georgia mountains this spring and found this car underneath a carport in between a couple of little towns. We stopped and inquired about this car but the owners were not interested in selling it at the time. A few weeks later however they called and offered to sell the car to me. I really love the body lines of this style Cadillac so I loaded up the kids and drove on up. I’m really into classic Cadillacs and after seeing how original and unmolested this car was I had to have it. The previous owner stated that this car had not been driven in at least ten years or maybe longer, so when we got it back to the garage we started going through it. It surprised me that everything was as original and untouched as it was considering that it’s 44 years old. This car still is in it’s original paint and has it’s original interior! This luxury car came with factory power windows, 6 way power seat, cruise control, power antenna, clock, dome lights, and to this day even the cigarette lighter and all of these upgrades still work. It is evident that this car has been well loved and taken care of its whole life. It amazed me that once putting fresh gas and a hot battery in the car the car fired right up and ran. We immediately noticed that it did have a collapsed lifter, but we removed the intake and installed a new lifter and reinstalled the valve covers with a new set of intake and valve cover gaskets. We also replaced all of the belts and hoses, put all new tune up components in it including: points and condenser, cap and rotor, spark plug wires and spark plugs. After we finished up the simple maintenance we have been able to cruise this car out to several car shows and events. I decided to add a little more flare to the car this Summer, so I have added all new exhaust with Bellflower exhaust tips, a set of original wide whitewall tires and wheels from my ‘60 Cadillac with a set of bullet center caps and bullet lug nuts, and lowered the car about 1” to give it a better stance. Other than those small changes the car is 100% original and rust free. I really hate to sell this car but I have 3 other classic Cadillacs and am running out of money and space. To see more detailed pictures of this car click on the photobucket link below: http://s621.photobucket.com/albums/tt297/jtmkustoms/1966%20Cadillac%20Sedan%20Deville/?albumview=slideshow BODY: The body on this Cadillac is super solid. There is no through rust anywhere on the car. The floors, inner outer rockers, the trunk pan, the weather strip lip, the quarters, hood and trunk lid, doors, frame, firewall are all super solid. I can detect no major body damage or accident damage on the car. The car has never had any paintwork or bodywork done on it. There is no body filler anywhere on the car. All of the doors line up, open and close smoothly and the gaps on the hood, trunk lid and fenders all line up. The front and rear bumpers are also straight and free of major damage. There is a small dent on the trunk lid and there also is a small dent in the lower passenger side rocker panel. A few shopping cart dings are also evident on the car. All of the small dents are not major and should be easy to repair. There are a few small areas where the original paint has worn thin and there is a small amount of surface rust, but there is no heavy pitting or rust holes. All of the trim is present on the car and in good condition. The grill is in good condition and is not broken or damaged. All of the headlight bezels and emblems are present and in good condition. I like the car in it’s current condition, it has the Old Skool patina that everyone is trying to recreate these days. The car would be an easy restoration or just run in it’s current state, or add a metal flake painted roof, scallops and some custom pin striping for a one-off Kustom cruiser. DRIVE TRAIN: This car is powered by it’s original 429 V-8 with a Hydromatic 3 speed automatic transmission. It is a factory 4 barrel carb. The car fires right up and runs smoothly, it has good power and acceleration with plenty of power to spare. There are no major oil leaks or excessive engine noise that I can detect. The transmission shifts smoothly and does not slip, surge or buck and has no detectible leaks or abnormal noises. The car is a factory air conditioned car and still retains all of the original air conditioning components. The air conditioner currently does not work but it could be as simple a fix as converting to 134A and charging the system. The factory rear end has no detectible grinding, noises, or excessive leaks. The car is also a factory power drum brake car, and stops straight and smooth and does not pull or pulsate. The car has factory power steering which makes turning easy and effortless. All of the rest of the factory suspension components are in place and everything seems to be in good working order. INTERIOR: All of the interior is original to the car and with the exception of a little fading and staining on the seats the interior is in excellent condition. The dash pad has no cracks whatsoever. All of the door panels and trim panels are in good condition. The headliner is in excellent condition with no rips, tears, or sags. The 6 way power front seat works properly. All of the power windows are functioning properly. All of the original factory glass is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks and no de-lamination around the edges of the glass. With the exception of the fuel gauge, all of the factory gauges are working. The cruise control is still functioning and the power antenna still works. The dash has not been altered in any way, the car still retains the factory original AM/FM radio, although the radio currently is not working. All of the interior dome lights, the glove box light and the automatic headlights work. WHEELS AND TIRES: Also included in this auction are a set of factory steel wheels and tires with all four original hubcaps.
