First of all, there just aren't that many 2007 Avalanche LTZ Z71 4x4's out there. Second of all, 2007 is the first and most affordable year of the new body style Avalanche...the sexy one that everyone wants--and with production cut in half for '08 and '09, the Avalanche is in very high demand as a used vehicle. Thirdly, when you narrow your choices down to one with the towing and Z71 off-road packages, you might be lucky to find one or two or three to choose from at any given time. And that's across the entire country!Not only is the 2007 Chevy Avalanche LTZ-Z71 4x4 rare to start with, but owners tend to love them to death--and drive the wheels off of them! They don't show up on the used market quickly, which is why, when you ARE able to pry one from the cold dead hands of the former own...oh, sorry!...anyway...if you do manage to find one it usually has plenty of well-traveled experience of the "six-digit" kind, to put it kindly...120,000-140,000 miles is not uncommon to find right now. And why not? It's been built to last for many, many miles and even more smiles.Okay--back to the mileage quiz. So far, everyone who has looked at this truck has guessed that is has between 25K and 50K miles, and the truck gives many interior and exterior clues that might indicate they are correct. After all, this truck has lived an easy life--it's only owner has disclosed that it was flat-towed about half the time behind a big diesel pusher motorhome. (Chevy's electronic transfer case makes flat towing a breeze in neutral, but the odometer still measures every turn of the wheels.)Wait a minute--that means although this one's showing 96,270 miles, not all of that was under its own power. So just exactly how young is the "heart" of this truck--the engine? Well, in doing some checking on other 2007 Chevys we have in stock, some with low mileage, some with high mileage, we studied the electronic engine hour meter on each truck (which cannot be reset.) We have learned that, on average, the engines in these trucks run approximately 1 hour per every 25.75 road miles traveled (depending upon idling time variances.) That means a Chevy truck with 96,270 miles should have somewhere around 3,743 engine hours on it.The engine hours on this Avalanche seem to bear out the first owner's towing estimates pretty well--it currently shows just 2,068 total engine hours and our estimates indicate it has been driven about 53,250 miles, plus or minus, under its own power. That's great news for the next owner, because although there is still a bit of Chevy's 5yr/100K powertrain warranty left, the low engine hours promise plenty of powertrain service ahead. It's almost like buying a 53K mile Avalanche at a 96K mile price! And the rest of the truck shares in that low mileage persona...the interior is in beautiful shape. As you would expect from a vehicle that has been towed behind a motorhome, there were some small rock chips in the hood, which have all been touched up, but on the whole this Avalanche is quite a looker! Under the hood, it even has a professionally installed $300 K&N cold air intake kit that boosts power and economy by letting the engine breathe more freely.
