Vehicle Detail

This is a beautiful example of a 1964 1/2 Mustang. This original California black and gold license plate car has always called the Golden State her home. She is stunning in her original color combination of Rangoon Red with black vinyl interior. The turning of heads when you drive down the street is a reminder of the legacy this car started. Running the powerful V8 engine through all 4 gears is like a trip back to 1965. History: Ford Motor Company has always been known as an innovator. It all started with the inception of Ford itself. Ford first became famous due to the introduction of the assembly line. Fortunately, it did not stop there. Over the decades, Ford continued to engineer new concepts and to lead the industry in innovation and design. In mid 1964, Ford introduced a revolutionary new automotive design... The Mustang. This model would be only available in 2 door models. It would become known as a Pony Car. The Ford Mustang became an instant hit! Other automakers soon followed with their own versions of this 2 door only design. Through it all, the fact remains, the Ford Mustang is the true American Pony car. The 1964 1/2 Mustang: The Ford Mustang was introduced into the market right in the middle of 1964, not in the 3rd quarter as most models are. Since this was the first year of production, all the engineering details had not been fully completed. Ford started with the basic layout of the Falcon 2 door bucket seat car and designed from there. This allowed for a short period wherein the Mustang had unique parts installed that would never again be used in production. Although the first year model for the Ford Mustang is 1965, the unique early production Mustangs have become well known as "64 1/2" models. Unique early production items range from a beveled hood and headlight bezels to stainless seatbelts and low-mount horns. The fact that 64 1/2 Mustangs are the true first design makes them icons in the eyes of collectors and investors alike. Exterior: This Mustang is finished in its' original Rangoon Red color. The body is in excellent condition. There are no major dings, dents, or scratches. Being an original California car, it has no major rust or rust repairs. The paint is decades old and has always been garage kept so it shows great. The older paint shows the car has a sound unmolested body. All panels open and shut well with great alignment. The trunk is clean with no rot or repairs. The chrome all shines well with excellent reflection and no major pitting. All panels appear to be original to this car including the elusive 1964 1/2 hood and core support. Over the years, she has gained a few bubbles behind the rear window and some cracking in the paint on the right rear quarter. Any 46 year old would be proud to look this good. You would be hard pressed to find a nicer original body than this one! Interior: The interior is in very good condition and looks to be mostly original. There are no rips, tears, or other problems. The seats are original, but the passenger seat track has been swapped out with an adjustable unit for comfort. The original seatbelts and "A" knob are intact. The carpet has been replaced by high quality molded carpet. A center console has been added with no modifications to the car. Also, a cassette/CD stereo has been installed with no permanent alterations to the car. The original 4 speed shifter and bezel are intact and in great shape. The headliner is in great shape and appears to be the original unit. Engine: This Mustang came with the 64 1/2 only D-code 289 4 barrel engine. The engine is the original and is in stock form other than the addition of an RV cam which gives the car a classic rumble. The engine starts every time and does not skip a beat. To aid reliability and boost performance, an electronic ignition has been added to an original Ford distributor to maintain a stock look. Other than a small puff of smoke when started, this engine runs like new. Transmission: The factory 4 speed transmission is in excellent condition. The original 4 speed shifter works great with strong positive shifts and no slop or sticking in between gears. The transmission is fully synchronized for smooth up and down shifting between all 4 gears. There is no grinding, whining, popping out of gear, or other problems with the transmission. The clutch engages smoothly with lots of pedal. Don't be afraid of buying a classic car with a stick shift. This car is so easy to drive that I would hand the keys to my youngest cousin who just got his license or my Grandma who hasn't driven a stick in 20 years. Not to mention, the grin factor with a 4 speed trans is 10 times the excitement of an automatic. Rear End: The rear end is the original. It has 3.00 gearing. This gearing is excellent for the 4 speed transmission. The 1st gear is low enough to power the car easily through and the cruising RPM on the freeway is comfortable with responsive acceleration. Suspension: The suspension is just as Ford designed it, simple and effective. The ride is smooth with tight, responsive steering. KYB gas shocks make the driver one with the road. Exhaust: Tri-Y Headers into true dual exhaust with a cross over and flowmaster mufflers makes this car a symphony to listen to. It has a true muscle car rumble that you would expect out of a 60's V8. At the same time, it is quiet enough to pull up to your next business meeting without attracting undue attention. Overall: This Mustang truly has it all. An early production model in an excellent color combination with an original V8 engine hooked to an adrenaline pumping 4 speed manual transmission. It has the ability to be a 2 door sports car one day and a 5 seater family car the next. It commands respect from all ages whether going to a car show, business meeting, or a night on the town. This is the car for everyone! Own The Original American Pony Car!
