Vehicle Detail
I have owned 3 Troopers, and loved all of them. This latest one is older then my others, as I sold my 2000 LS on eBay on October because of an extended period of unemployment. In late January, after getting a job and starting to build my savings back up – I bought, yes, another Trooper. This one. I JUST SAW THAT THIS IS SAYING IT WAS A "SALVAGE TITLE"! IT IS NOT A SALVAGE TITLE, I HAVE A FREE & CLEAR PENNSYLVANIA TITLE, WHICH WAS TITLED OFF MY GEORGIA CLEAR TITLE - NOT A SALVAGE ONE! WHILE I AM NOT THE ORIGINAL OWNER, I BOUGHT THIS IN GA - WHERE I LIVED UNTIL MOVING HERE, AND TO MY UNDERSTANDING IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN A SOUTHERN CAR AND HAD NEVER HAD ANY MAJOR ACCIDENTS. WHY IT IS COMING UP AS A SALVAGE TITLE IS BEYOND ME! CAN FAX YOU A COPY OF TITLE IF YOU'D LIKE... Last Friday afternoon, I noticed smoke coming from underneath it. I am not a mechanic, but had a friend look at it, and spoke with a mechanic about it. The smoke smells like oil, and when the car is turned off, sure enough, oil leaks from the bottom somewhere…. The leak is slow, the car runs, but overheats quickly, within about 10 miles or so. It is also now blowing white, steamy smoke out the exhaust after about 5-10 minutes. Best guess is that it has a blown head gasket, which can be costly. Especially if you just started working again after an extended period of unemployment as I have. Not a repair I can afford to fix. It may just be a water pump. It isn't the thermostat, as I changed that immediately (wishful thinking) Maybe you are or have a great mechanic. Or don’t mind the cost of the repair. If so, this is a great Trooper for you! Mileage just turned 186,000. The pros: Interior is in great condition. No cracks in dash, all gauges function Engine in great running order Transmission is in great running order 4WD works great Power Drive & Winter Drive modes Moonroof in perfect working condition Power Windows, doors, mirrors – all in working condition Fold-in side mirrors Cold A/C tow package & roof rack 4 new tires, probably about 4000 miles on them, tops (THEY WERE OVER $500 ALONE! YOU NEED THIS SIZE TIRE, BUY THE CAR!) Newer battery New hoses and belts New brakes Space, Space & more space! The cons: Obviously, the oil leak/smoke. This car passed inspection in April. The smoke may be caused by something as easy to fix as a simple leak, but from what I’ve heard in talking & researching the internet, it is more likely an expensive fix, such as a head gasket The starter is weak. It has never failed to start yet, but I have had several occasions where it does not start on the 1st crank The spare tire is dry rotted. These tires are not cheap, so buying 4 new ones for safety was all I could afford, figuring I’d replace the spare as well down the road There is a pinpoint chip in windshield, that spiders out to the total size of about a dime. Darn rocks on I-95 headed north into Philly where construction is going on – just happened about 3 weeks ago. I called one of the glass repair places, but never acted on it. They estimated about $125 to repair chip Drivers side door weld needs to be spot welded, makes a clicking noise when opened due to weld break in rivet Various small dents/dings/bruises Small burn on back seat – I am a non-smoker so I can only imagine it is from either one of my passengers on an eve I was designated driver, or I didn’t notice it when I purchased it If you are interested in seeing it – I am just Southwest of Philadelphia. I would normally be happy to meet you, but I do not want to drive this Trooper any more than necessary not knowing what the problem is, so you’ll have to come to me. I would not recommend driving it far, so if you live over 10 miles away or so I would recommend a tow, unless you look at it and determine it is safe to drive. I drove it and didn’t even notice the smoke. Had one truck beep & point to me…. Now I figure that was probably why! I sure noticed the smoke – and accompanying smell when I parked it that eve. The tires alone are worth the starting bid! A $500 deposit is required within 24 hours of auction close via PayPal. Balance is due upon pickup via cash or certified bank check. Please, serious bidders only! I have to pay for this listing, and again based on final price. If you back out, I lose money that I already cannot afford. I have included everything I can think of, and hope I haven't left anything out. Please email with any questions at all. Thanks for looking, and please contact me via eBay to set up an appointment if you’d like to come see this vehicle. Car is being sold as is with no warranty, and I reserve the right to end the auction early as I am advertising it locally as well. On Aug-28-10 at 20:56:37 PDT, seller added the following information: I just want to clarify why I think the "salvage title" was a DMV error. The DMV record shows the vehicle registration renewed on 7/8/2002 in Smyrna, GA (about 10 miles NW of Atlanta, I used to live there). It then shows a salvage title on 10/8/02 in Stockbridge, GA (SW of Atlanta), and a vehicle registration - clear title again - on 11/8/02 in Lilburn, GA, (NE of Atlanta). This is my thought: someone moved. In GA, we have to register cars in the county we live...somewhere in that 3 month period, an owner probably moved from one county to another county, and the DMV somehow messed up the title during that process & marked it salvage.... It only makes sense, as the Auto Check report from eBay that states it has a salvage title also clearly states this vehicle hasn't had any accidents, repo's or thefts, which is the only reason i would think a salvage title would have been correctly issued. Just my thoughts on the whole thing...I could be wrong, but it makes more sense that the DMV made a boo-boo, then it was stolen or totalled and rebuilt or recovered in such a short time period and not reported to autocheck. And like I said, when I bought it, it had a clear title, not a salvage or rebuilt... and still has a clear title. just now issued in PA and not GA. Hope that helpsOn Aug-29-10 at 12:01:40 PDT, seller added the following information: Just wanted to clarify something. If you are the highest bidder, and plan on picking this vehicle up within 48 hours, then there is no need to make a deposit via PayPal at auctions end. That said, I will expect the highest bidder to pick up the vehicle within 48 hours and have the cash on hand to pay for it. Please do not arrive and attempt to haggle with me over the price - it will cost exactly what the highest bid is. If you need to make arrangements to pick up the vehicle that will take longer then 48 hours, I will ask you make a deposit through PayPal to show good faith. And please, since I need it out of my driveway, pick it up in a reasonable time frame. I'd say a week is reasonable, but I'll work with you if you need a little longer. I don't want to come off as unreasonable, but in searching for my own car on ebay I've read a lot of horror stories. I don't want to be the next one. I cannot afford that kind of loss or to play those games. Thanks for looking and happy bidding!
