Vehicle Detail

UPDATED INFO: I have been made aware that the vehicle history report says that there was an odometer reading of 159K miles on 6-6-94. This is completely inaccurate! This GTA has 68,680 original miles. There was an error in the odometer reading submitted by the MN DMV in Mankato, MN. Just take a look at those odometer readings: They claim an Odomoter reading of 53K miles in 1993, and the VERY NEXT YEAR they claim an odometer reading of 159K miles??? No, this GTA did NOT get 106,000 miles put on it in that 1 year!! That's absurd! I have receipts that verify that the Odometer reading of 159K miles in 1994 is WRONG! I have spoken to both the MN DMV, and Experian Autocheck, and neither is accepting any responsibility for the error. The MN DMV no longer has any record of mileage on this vehicle (they eliminate all mileage records after 12 years), and Experian is simply saying that they report what is reported to them. So because of the utter incompetence of the MN DMV in Mankato, I as the seller, get screwed by a bogus history report. This car still wears the BF Goodrich tires that I have a receipt for from Tire Plus that were purchased in 1994 when the GTA had 60,xxx miles on it. The History Report is DEAD WRONG!, And I'm the one (as the seller) who is going to end up paying the price for it. I’m putting up for auction my beautiful 1987 AMC-Renault GTA Convertible. It has only 68K original and documented miles. It’s been stored every winter since new, and is rot-free. It’s been driven only a few times a year (on nice summer days) for the last 15 years or so. It starts, runs, and drives great, a really fun car to zip around in. The interior is Fantastic! The biggest flaw in the interior is the GTA floor mat has a worn spot where your heel goes. The tires are decent (still some miles left in the BF Goodriches), exhaust is solid, and it just received an Oil/Lube/Filter change about 30 miles ago. The top is still nice, but it does have a small 2” tear that HAS BEEN repaired, and does not leak. The rest of the outside of the GTA is in good condition. It does have some of the typical minor stuff like small dings, rock chips, and some scratches, the stuff you’d expect from a non-restored, 23 year old car that’s been driven for 68K miles. Of course being Classic Black in color, all those minor flaws show up a lot more than if the car were a lighter color, but I love the jet-black color. The car is what would be considered a “20-footer” in my opinion. It looks perfect from 20 feet, but if you get up-close you can see those small dings, and scratches. This car has not been restored, and it has been driven and enjoyed, it’s not going to be perfect. Even with the minor flaws, this GTA is a gorgeous car that gets a lot of positive attention. Underneath is excellent! The car received the Ziebart rustproofing when new, and I think it helped a lot. The underside is still coated with the undercoating, and there is no rust. See the pictures, the undercoating has some dirt/dust on it, but it is in GREAT shape. I’ve got lots of photos for you to check out on my photobucket page (Over 60 pictures), you can access the page by clicking here: http://s582.photobucket.com/albums/ss265/amc4evr/GTA%20Pics/ Please keep in mind that all the photos in the world can’t equal a live and in-person viewing of the car. Anyone serious about buying my GTA is MORE than welcome to come see it in person before bidding/buying; In fact I strongly encourage it. Come see the car, give it a really good look over, we can even take it for a drive; I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. The GTA comes with lots of extra stuff: Original Window Sticker, Original Dealer’s Sale Contract, Owner’s Manual, Loads of service receipts, Repair Manual, Dealer Brochure for the GTA, an original centerfold magazine ad for the GTA and more. So, what is an AMC-Renault GTA? Well, the GTA was a limited production (about 2000 were made), one-year only performance version of the AMC Renault Alliance. The GTA was only available in two body styles; Two Door Sedan, and Two Door Convertible and all came with a 5 speed Overdrive manual transmssion. It wasn’t just a “decal and spoiler” package. The GTA used the new 2.0 Litre Fuel Injected 4 cylinder (all of the regular Alliance’s used either a 1.4L or an optional 1.7L engine, the 2.0 was exclusive to the GTA). It featured 15” Alloy wheels with 50 series high performance radials, upgraded suspension with thicker sway bars, vented front disk brakes, special bolstered seats inside, and more. This wasn’t just an ordinary “econobox” with a sporty look. The GTA was rated at .89 G’s of lateral acceleration which was better than almost every car of that era, and is still to this day a very impressive figure, where the GTA lacked in horsepower it made up for it in cornering ability. This particular GTA was also equipped with several options (see photo of the window sticker) including: Air Conditioning (it’s not blowing cold though), Power Door Locks and Windows, Fog Lamps, Light Group, AM-FM Cassette with 6 premium speakers, Cruise Control, Intermittent wipers, Power Convertible Top, and more. This GTA was pretty well loaded up. And it had a final MSRP of $15,982, which probably makes it one of the highest sticker price vehicles to ever roll off AMC’s Kenosha, WI assembly line. If you’ve got a couple minutes, I’d recommend checking out this 2 minute commercial or promo film for the “New for ‘87” Renault GTA. Click here for the youtube video (It’s really quite entertaining). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JpG1UFJbltc This is not a car that you’ll see everyday. This is the only one you’ll see on eBay (as of the time that this auction posted), and you’ll also come up empty if you search for one under “Completed Items” on eBay. There was a recently completed eBay listing for an ’87 GTA 2 door Sedan, but not for a convertible. To see that, check out this eBay link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200504940547&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT In Summary: This is a very rare little car. It’s economical, but still extremely fun to drive. It was made in the good ol’ USA by American Motor’s Corporation. The 1987 GTA was essentially the pinnacle of the Renault-AMC marriage, and it came in the final year of that relationship. You won’t see many, if any, of these little beasts anywhere else. This one is a very well documented, low mileage survivor that should only climb in value over the coming years. The opportunity to buy a car like this won’t come around very often. If you have a feedback rating LESS than 5, please contact me first. Unfortunately, most of the bids on vehicles from ebay members with less than 5 are not legitimate bids. So to be fair to the REAL bidders out there, please contact me prior to bidding if your feedback score is less than 5, or I will have to cancel your bid. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: YES, I do have a “Buy It Now” price, but I didn’t include that option with the listing. The reason I didn’t is because of all the scammers out there who like to ruin auction listings by hitting the Buy It Now (aka: “BIN”) when they have no intention of actually buying the car. For anyone who is TRULY interested in buying my GTA with a Buy It Now, please contact me for the price. If at that point you are interested, I can add the “BIN” to the listing for you. Also, this vehicle is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the listing if it sells. NO, I don’t KNOW if you could hop in the car and drive it to (fill in the blank). The car is nearly 24 years old and I have no way of knowing if it could be driven to California (or wherever else) tomorrow. That being said, I myself would have no hesitation about getting in the car and taking it on a road trip of a couple hundred miles. It really does run and drive super. YES, I could store the GTA for a while (for up to two weeks after the auction ends), as long as the car has been paid for in full. MAYBE, it is possible that I could help with shipping. Contact me with your location for a price and delivery time quote. On Aug-19-10 at 09:14:21 PDT, seller added the following information: Just a quick note: I've already had to cancel the bid of a Zero Feedback Bidder. If you have less than 5 for a feedback rating, you must contact me first. And this particular zero feedback bidder was also out of the country. I know that the international bidders with zero feedback ratings are bogus. Your Bid(s) will continue to be cancelled! USA & Canada only on this listing.
