Vehicle Detail
1976 CB550K This bike has undergone an extensive rebuild. The engine was pulled from the frame, excess tabs were cut off, the rear end was boxed in for structural stiffness, the frame was cleaned up and repainted. The tank was custom modified to add knee dents, and is coated on the inside to prevent rust. The seat is custom made with an aluminum frame and fiberglass body, and uses the stock hinge points and lock, so a stock seat can be reinstalled if desired. The bodywork isn't perfect, there are a couple areas that appear rough. The paint is a black hammered finish with silver stripes and red pinstripes. The silver paint has a couple of imperfections, but they're not very noticable (see pictures, it looks great). The engine is extremely solid with great compression on all cylinders. Carbs have been thoroughly soda-blasted, had brand new idle jets installed, and rebuilt with new gaskets and Honda fuel lines. Pod filters and a custom exhaust were installed, and 110 main jets were installed to compensate. A CB650 cam (more duration and lift) was installed to further enhance performance. A CB650 tach and tach driven gear were installed to show RPMs correctly with the new cam. The gauges were disassembled, cleaned, and have new gauge faces installed. LED light rings were installed behind the gauges for much better than stock lighting. LED turn signals were installed all around along with an LED taillight. The headlight is a new H4-compatible housing with an HID kit installed. The slim ballast sits inside of the headlight bucket and the relay box hides behind the bucket. The bulb is a 35W 5000K unit and works great. You can't even begin to compare it to the stock unit. Clubman bars were installed along with a bar-end mirror, new grips, and the ignition switch was relocated to the left side of the frame. The rear shocks are from a CB900f, and are fully adjustable. The foot pegs are from a CB400f and move the foot position back a few inches. The kick start lever is from a CB550f and keeps the kick start functional with the rearsets. Forks have been rebuilt with new seals, new CB750 dust caps, and new fluid. The tires are brand new with less than 100 miles on them. Tires and tubes were mounted and balanced by Garvis Honda. Unfortunately, a tube went bad after installation, and the paint on the wheel got scratched up when Garvis installed a new tube. I touched it up some, but under close inspection there's a bit still visible. The master cylinder is from a Nighthawk 550 and the brake lines are all brand new custom stainless steel braided lines. The rotor has been cross drilled and each hole was deburred and countersunk. The feel is very good. The battery is a brand new sealed no-maintenance unit. The regulator and rectifier are brand new solid-state units from Oregon Motorcycle Parts. The stock fuse box was replaced with blade-type fuses for reliability. All electrical components have been moved to underneath the seat. The bike is fun, quick, and gets looks everywhere it goes. Everything works as it should, the bike runs great at all RPMs and throttle positions, no stumbling or running problems. I have a clean title in my name.
