It's a trip that would take a good, long time. In this case, about 80 years! Welcome to the story of a 1931 Ford Model A Rumble Seat Roadster, a car that was built to tour and REALLY lived up to the promise! Benchmark Classics, America's Hot Rod, Custom, Specialty and Muscle Car Playground, now located in Middleton, Wisconsin has this treat of a car sitting behind the big doors on University Avenue. I'll tell you about the car first, and then a bit about its travels with Pee Wee and Irmalene Turner (Really!) If you're looking for a classic to tour about with, this is one to check out immediately. This is a 1931 Ford Model A Rumble Seat Roadster. By 1931 Ford wanted to pump some life back into what had been a huge seller, so they introduced the Deluxe model; this one is a Standard. But while it never officially carried the name, you'll hear lots of folks refer to the Rumble Seat Roadster as a Sport Roadster. This is one of those. It is also called a "six-wheel" or "six-wheeler" model, because of the dual side-mounted spares it carries on each front fender This is an older restoration, with lots of those touring miles on it, but the work was so good that in 1979 this car was given a National First Prize as a Senior Winner by the AACA, the Antique Automobile Club of America. The winner's badge is mounted proudly of the radiator grill. That restoration was total, including a great deal of work on the undercarriage. It is tan over black, with black trim, yellow boot-striping and yellow 19" wire wheels. It has a very recent tan canvas top (with glass rear window), side curtains and glass window wings (that are very effective when headin' on down the road!) There's the famous Flying Quail radiator cap on the front and a wood on chrome luggage rack on the rear, out behind the rumble seat. It has the classic 200.5 cubic inch Model A 4 cylinder with the 3-speed sliding gear transmission. The look under hood is what you would expect to see on a touring Model A: Simple, uncluttered and functional. To those who have only seen a Model A engine bay filled with a flathead Ford V-8 or a small block Chevy, seeing one in its original state can be a shock. This is a car you can work on yourself, with plenty of room to do anything you'd like. This 1931 Ford Model A was found in a museum in Denmark after World War II and eventually purchased and shipped back to America to Anniston, Alabama. After trading it back and forth with the man who restored and showed it around the country, the car ended up in the possession of Pee Wee and Irmalene Turner, who liked to do a little touring in their Model A. They did 7,000 miles of cross-country touring (!) in this wonderful design from Henry Ford's vivid imagination. Think of sitting "out back" in that rumble seat, heading down a blacktop through the cotton fields of the south, listening to Pee Wee and Irmalene argue about where they were going to head next in their Model A! That's a decision that could be yours to make: Where will you head in your 1931 Ford Model A Rumble Seat Roadster? It's ready for a spin, sitting behind the big doors at Benchmark Classics, on University Avenue in Middleton, Wisconsin. Vehicle Options --> About Us Thank you for visiting our eBay auction!
