Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a 1996 ford explorer 4 x 4 XLT. The vehicle has just rolled over 280k on the odometer, but had a new engine installed around 50k ago. The vehicle was just inspected in Maryland on December 14, 2009. In order for the vehicle to pass inspection, over $650 was invested to have both lower ball joints replaced, new hood release cable installed, and a number of other items as required (have inspection report, together with vendor invoice should you wish to review). The vehicle was purchased by my son from the original owners who had maintained the vehicle properly. He used it as his reliable mode of transportation from January 4, 2010 until his untimely death on May 21, 2010 (put about 7,000 miles on it during that time). The vehicle does start and drive like it should and the suspension seems to feel as it should. The 4- wheel drive seems to engage and dissengage as it should. The radio seems to work fine. Being the age of the vehicle it does have some wear and tear and some minor issues. There are dings and dents around most of the vehicle with the most sevear being at the drivers side fender and at then at the cowl panel which looks like an object has fallen on to the cowl and back of the hood making it a little difficult to open the hood but it does open (see pictures). The rear bumper is also missing a tag light and the steel bumpers show some sign of surface rust starting in spots. The check engine light is on which could mean anything from needing an oil chnge to an O2 sensor. The back doors also have a little problem with the locks. If either of the two rear doors are attempted to be opened while the vehicle is locked then the locking mechanism jambs not allowing to open or close the door at all. The doors unjamb after a bit of up and down pressure on the door lock post but may need to be addressed to pass a state inspection. The vehicle currently has the spare tire on the rear which is a real tire not a donut because of a flat tire, but the alloy wheel is included and underneath the vehicle. The interior has some worn spots and shows a bit of age but should clean up reasonably. The A.C. system does NOT blow cold air. The vehicle is being sold as is where is and is located in Queenstown, MD just over the Bay Bridge on the eastern shore. No warranty is expressed on implied. You can contact me at brlangford@msn.com to answer any questions or should you wish to inspect the vehicle.
