Vehicle Detail
I am selling my 1957 Safari project. It is killing me to do this but health forces the sale. I purchased the car from a friend of mine after begging him for it for 6 years. I have been building it for over 5 years and have spared nothing. It lived it's whole life in San Diego and was rust free except for the floors. I started the build by removing every nut and bolt and placing the body and the frame on two different rotisseries. I had the frame sandblasted and the body soda blasted. See pics. The only metal work the body needed was the inside portion of one rocker panel. I didn't want to patch the floors so I purchased a complete set of floor pans and braces and replaced that whole portion of the car. The floors were rusty because the car came with power windows and one of the windows was left down and water got into the car while it was stored in a barn for over 20 years. The body metal work is complete, there are two coats of DP on it and is ready for skim coat and blocking for paint. The frame had only light surface rust on it and was very nice after blasting. I DP'd it and sprayed four coats of chassis black while on the rotisserie. I installed a Fat Man front stub on it with chrome coil overs and polished tubular control arms with rack and pinion steering. It has 4 wheel disc brakes with stainless polished calipers, slotted rotors all from Wilwood. 17" Boyd wheels and the correct size new Michelin tires are on it now. I had custom gauges made for the dash from Classic instruments. Needless to say these were expensive as was everything I put into the car. The car was complete and un-touched when I got it so I have everything for it, even picked up some duplicates along the way. Many parts like tail lite housings etc. have already been re-chrome. I have polished some of the stainless but much still needs to be done. I have two sets of front and back bumpers. The car was being built as a mild custom with modern amenities. If you want to do a factory original restoration this might not be the car for you. I have everything for the car including Vintage Air, six way 60/40 front bench seat with power lumbar on both sides, Flaming River column etc, I could go on forever again. The motor is a 1969 Pontiac 428, bored .30. It has a new Eagle crank, Ross pistons and rods, Isky cam that I had ground specifically for cruising in a heavy car with an overdrive tranny. #64 heads with harden seats which gives you 9.5 compression ratio for street gas, 1966 aluminum polished tri-power intake with 2GC carbs that are perfectly re-built and re-coated. The rocker covers are one off billet that are wider than any other you can fine for a Pontiac, some people think it's a big block Chevy at first. Complete March serpentine system with billet power steering pump, billet alternator and polished stainless A/C compressor. The transmission is a 700R4 with an electric overdrive lockout for add mileage on the freeway and a custom built torque converter for the engine/tranny/car weight combo. I dynode tuned the engine and it runs perfectly with 465HP and 490FT/LBS of torque. Even with that power I expected to get 15 to 20 MPG with the overdrive. It is an absolutely beautiful set-up and I want $15K OBO for it. I will list it with a Buy It Now if you are interested. I could go on and on here but if you are a serious car guy and know what this is and might be interested please feel free to call me @ 619-444-1577 8am to 8pm PST. I have had a lot of questions about what I have in the car. Here is a list of some of the bigger ticket stuff. Fat man front stub with chrome coil overs and polished tubular a arms, $3000.00 Wildwood disc brakes with polished calipers and anodized drilled and slotted rotors with polished hubs, $1800.00 17” Boyd polished aluminum wheels $1200.00 17” MIchelin tires, $1200.00 Body: New smoked glass for the entire car from Danchuck, 1600.00 Power break master polished aluminum with a stainless booster, $625.00 Break peddle assembly with large bore master and dual diaphram booster, remote billet fill, 90 degrees to fit under the dash to keep firewall empty and clean, $325.00 Custom Classic Industries gauges, $778.00 Flaming River column shift, $500.00 Vintage Air Gen ll complete system, biggest one they make, $1300.00 Floor pans and braces, $1200.00 Ron Francis complete wire harness and fuse block with all new switches including ignition, $1155.00 That's $14,683.00, not including the car and I know I'm forgetting more stuff. On Jul-15-10 at 16:52:48 PDT, seller added the following information: I have been asked to show some additional pictures. Here is a link to those pictures: http://1957safaripictures.shutterfly.com/ I have had several people ask me to tell them specificly what I do not have to finish the car. I do have everything that originally came with the car with some duplicates, with the exception of the original front seat. I replaced it with a modern 60/40 power seat with power lumbar on both sides, driver and passenger. The following is a list of what I can recall still needed to be purchased for the completion: Exhaust system Radiator/condenser Windshield wiper motor Power window motors That is all I can think of. I very short list.
