This is the 4th Fintail I’ve sold on Ebay and it’s the best one yet. A just lovely little W111-chassis Fintail ‘Heckflosse’ Mercedes-Benz, a Fuel-Injected 1963 220SEb Automatic with Power Steering and AC. This is a wonderful original So-Cal survivor car that really drives like new and is sure to bring many days of enjoyment to her new owner. The Fuel-injected cars are a breed apart. At 120HP, these are the fastest Fintail models produced (Save the exotic 300SE/L models) and are a joy to drive and easy to maintain. It's rare to find one with an automatic and power steering, and I can't recall seeing many in red (DB 519) either. Fully loaded with Euro headlights, Automatic, Ivory steering wheel, leather interior including very rare optional headrests, power steering and brakes, working AC and working signal-seeking Becker Mexico radio, this is an always garaged and maintained 3-owner CA car from new, still sporting it's original black license plates. Comes with a full stack of records including nearly every CA registration receipt since new, and a stamped service book. Original jack, tools and spare come with the car. The European grille badges, evidence of European delivery, are on the car and are quite valuable and collectible themselves. The car has never been rusted and has no visible rust or rot anywhere. It has been repainted at some point, a high-quality paint job, aging well- there are a couple of bubbles under the paint above the rear wheel well and some touched up chips here and there. Glass all good, bumpers are near perfect and the tires are recent. Grille, stainless is near perfect. I had the US front turn signal holes filled so the European one-piece glass headlights would look correct. The headlights really set off the sleek lines of the car and always elicit 'James Bond car' comments! The US headlights will come with the car should you wish to change back. Starting from cold is immediate, the engine does not smoke or make funny noises, oil pressure pegs right away and does not waver at idle. Never runs hot. The car has new plugs, filters cap, rotor and points, oil change and Mechanical Fuel Injection adjusted to factory spec. The transmission shifts correctly, the car accelerates with a snap and paces modern traffic easily. Steering is firm and precise with no wandering or noises, brakes straight and even and with 4-wheel discs, a very confidence- inspiring driving experience. The swing-axle rear end does not make noise or exhibit any bad tendencies. All electrical works (including the signal seeking Becker Mexico radio!) and the car has a newly rebuilt generator, properly adjusted voltage regulator, (charges at idle!) complete new generator wiring harness, and a new Bosch battery. I charged up the AC with Freeze 12 and it is blowing cold and holding pressure so far, but the hoses and dryer are original and so may require service in the future. The wood is way above average, windshield wood is not cracked or water damaged as so often happens with these cars. Ivory steering wheel had a leather cover and is just amazing, shiny and not cracked! Dash is very good and not cracked. Carpets are very good/excellent. Headliner excellent, even in the usual trouble spots around the rear window. Leather seats exhibit nice wear patina and smell wonderful, fronts have been protected by nice thick sheepskins. Passenger seat bottom has a 3” worn patch. The car has also been upgraded to shoulder seat belts. it's a very comfortable ride. Doors click shut with that bank-vault Mercedes Benz sound, and the car drives like an S Class Mercedes should, takes potholes with ease and handles great for a nearly 50-year old car! All in all, this is a rare, high-optioned Fintail, in above-average driver condition, perfectly suited for daily driver use or for sunday car show drives, or for a show restoration. I drive all my cars and I really have a special love for these injected fintails, I have owned and sold 4 220SE cars in the last few years, and this is the nicest one. This car really drives amazingly, looks just beautiful, and I am proud to own it and to offer it for sale.
