Vehicle Detail
You are about to bid on a 1963 Fiat 500, driven daily by Ken, Co-Owner of Sportscar Workshops here in Richmond, VA. With charm to spare, this Fiat 500 is easily one of the most lovable cars around the shop and gets 57mpg to boot. Owned by Ken for the past year, the car was originally shipped over by a US Military Serviceman direct from Italy. For all the guys out there looking for a bit of attention from the opposite sex, forget the Porsche. Having driven hundreds of vintage Sportscars ranging from Ferraris to Jaguar E-Types to MGs, Ken can attest that nothing, absolutely NOTHING puts smiles on faces like a Fiat 500. Driving this thing down a city street, you would think it was emitting laughing gas out the tail pipe as you look around. Kids point, old men wave, and best of all, the ladies crack a smile that just won’t go away! In the past year, significant work has been done to make this 500 a great driver. Most importantly, the engine was stripped down, and a new crankshaft and main bearings were installed. The brakes, tires, and wheel cylinders have been replaced all around. New front shocks have been put in the front of the car (the rears are fine too). A pesky oil leak from the camshaft cover has been tracked down and fixed with a new seal. The removable hardtop seals well, and comes right off for open top cruising. While not perfect, this car has a lovely patina that cannot be overlooked. The car even still has its original Vatican parking decal on the windshield! Surely that has got to be worth some good graces alone. The paint is a nice shiny older job in a lovely Dove Gray shade. There are a few bubbly spots and a dented section in the front that has been roughly pounded back out, but there are most importantly, no holes or more significant rust on the top of the car. The floors have some spots beginning to show some evidence of rust, but no holes have formed. Thus, the body will need attention someday, but why not just drive it for the time being? In essence, this 500 is an honest car that starts, stops and drives well. It is not a show car. If you wanted to make a show car, this would be an excellent candidate for such a restoration. Father and son (or daughter!) project perhaps? A daily city driver? You decide, as this car could easily be either. Be well and happy bidding! NOTE: The mileage above is actually reading as 24,156 kilometers in the car, but whether this is in any way original is not known at this time. OTHER NOTE: Despite some slightly evil thoughts we had, the Ferrari motor in the last picture has not been installed in the back of this 500, nor is it included in the sale. We here at Sportscar Workshops would fully support the insanity if you decided to put such a motor in the back of this 500 however, as long as we got a test drive. :) Buyer to arrange and pay for all shipping, we will be happy to assist as needed. A deposit of $500 is to be paid within 24 hours of Auction end, with the remainder to be paid within 5 business days. On Jul-21-10 at 12:11:52 PDT, seller added the following information: Please check out the additional pictures we have added. They show most of the paint bubbles on the car (not all, but these are the biggest of them) and the spots that are beginning to get rusty underneath. These spots are more significant than mere surface rust and will need to be addressed at some point for certain, but are ok for the time being. The extra interior shots hopefully display the door panels, which are somewhat warped, but are complete and usable. Just to stress again, this is a fairly original car 50 or so that has not been restored but maintained and driven daily, not a show car.
