Vehicle Detail

Up for grabs is a fairly rare find - a 1959 Chevrolet 3100 series (1/2 ton) SHORT wheelbase pickup w/ the rare Fleetside bed and factory Deluxe Cab w/ big rear window. This truck is also rare because it is a REAL two-tone truck that came from the factory the most desirable and valuable paint code of all - Tartan Turquoise upper and Bombay Ivory lower. It came with a factory radio, chrome / deluxe equipment, chrome fleetside rear bumper, helper leaf springs and the coveted rare bed trim. The original bed trim and deluxe cab mouldings were gone when I got it, but see section below for additional cost items available to help you restore this truck. THIS AUCTION IS FOR THE TRUCK w/ HOOD and original tattered SEAT - this is so everyone can choose for themselves if they want to go all out like I was going to do and make it a super rare original truck loaded w/ factory options like a Cameo, or make it a Hot Rod w/ big block and flames or a Rat Rod in Black w/ red wheels..... everybody is different - what would you do with it? BODY: This is NOT a clone - The ugly Burgundy paint was sprayed directly on top of the scuffed original paint, so there is no primer and practically no bondo anywhere in this truck. It is a REAL short bed truck on its #'s matching short frame, and none of the body parts have ever been off of it or changed except for the hood which I removed and media blasted. The hood had to have a small patch made towards the rear on the outside skin (where they always rot) and I had this professionally welded up and the hood is otherwise perfect and ready for primer and paint work. The hood is in bare metal. The cab is the rare big window, and depending on where you live this one has as little rot as I typically see in the South - relatively low rot in the door hinge pockets and only a couple of finger sized holes in the actual floorpan. The trans cover is rotted and has been cut for a stick shifter. No rot around windshield or back glass, and from looking underneath, overall pretty solid old cab - will need usual inspection and body prep for old surface rusty metal inside and underneath. The front fenders have rot holes around the headlight areas, and are the only noted parts anywhere on the truck that have bondo in them - about 6" up from the bottom as usual. inner fenders and core support appear to be perfect. The doors are straight but the outer skins are separating from the bottoms as usual, and the bed is very nice and straight and bondo free but someone welded a metal floor in the bed and there is some rot inside the bed especially the front bed panel and some in the front lip areas as typically found on unrestored bodies like this. 99% of this truck is covered in Burgundy paint so a good soda blasting would go a long way towards identifying any areas needing work, but overall a nice rare and straight truck. DRIVETRAIN: This truck came from the factory with a 6 cyl and 3 speed, but the 6 cyl engine was pulled and a 400 small block put in at some point, and when I got the truck the smallblock 400 was pulled out, so the truck has no engine in it currently, but still has its V8 exhaust manifolds and complete exhaust, original 3 speed manual trans & driveshaft still in it. Brake system was replaced and is said to work perfectly - I can see the new lines, and it was being driven daily when the engine was pulled early this year. Tires are average. ** I have a # matching 283V8 and Hydramatic auto combo from a 58 CAMEO for this truck I will sell separate if someone wants to make this truck a very rare and original type restored truck - see below or inquire - 256 486 1988 **THIS TRUCK IS LOCATED / TO BE PICKED UP IN EVA ALABAMA APPROX 1 HR NORTH OF BIRMINGHAM AL or 2 1/2 HRS SOUTH OF NASHVILLE TN AND APPROX 3 HRS WEST OF ATLANTA. SEE ADDITIONAL ITEMS AVAILABLE BELOW FOR THE "ORIGINAL" LOVER / RESTORER - If you are interested in restoring this truck to an appraised value of 40K+ or a fine rare example and show winner equivalent to a CAMEO, then I have these items available at the same cost as what I paid for each item: 1) a set of NOS GM arrowheads and NOS GM chevrons w/ beautiful undented original stainless mouldings and NOS Taillight bezels w/ lenses and reflectors for the bed 2) NOS Drivers front fender 3) NOS fleetside tailgate & 4) NOS park light housings and wiring. 5) NOS stuff aside, the best item I have for you and the most rare and highly sought after is the correct "MA" suffix coded 283 V8 w/ correct casting code for 59 trucks w/ HYDRAMATIC automatic trans - This ULTRA RARE engine and Hydramatic trans came from a 58 Cameo which is why is is so rare (only a few months of date codes will work for a # matching 58 Cameo) but it is also correct suffix code-wise and casting code-wise for this 59 fleetside - the date codes will never be right for a 59, but everything important is there - mainly what you are looking for when someone says its #'s matching is the suffix code and to a lesser degree the hidden rear deck casting code. With this engine and trans comes the automatic linkages 100% complete and in awesome shape, and the automatic column parts. 6) also have a factory V8 / Hydramatic short bed FRAME from a 57 parts truck that can be had to use for the frame off resto and to be easier to complete the factory V8 / Auto transformation than cutting out the existing 3 speed crossmember and making other mods as needed.... FOR THE HOT RODDER: If you only want the body as it sits and are Hot hodding or rat-rodding this truck, you need nothing more than an engine and clutch assembly and a seat cover or different seat to be driving it - everything else is there and supposedly works - as I said it was being driven right before I bought it. This truck is already set up exhaust and drivetrain-wise for a smallblock V8, but a big block will fit right down in there too....if you are buying to rat-rod, I have a red set of wheels and wider tires we can swap out and I will keep the original wheels and hubcaps for a small price break if you like....inquire. 256 486 1988
