Vehicle Detail

1968 Corvette Convertible, Numbers Matching, Original Documentation, 70,600 Original Documented Miles, Fourth Documented Owner. This is a heavily optioned extremely original convertible with air conditioning, power steering, power brakes and power windows. This is a true California car. It has always resided in California.(See history below) This corvette maintains it’s original and functioning, A.I.R. Smog Equipment and it also has the original black and gold license plates. This car even has the original license plate frames from Colliau Chevrolet where the car was originally purchased from in South Pasadena, Ca. (I have never seen that before!) The paint also appears original as all bonding/molding strips are visible and all previous owners stated it has never been repainted. This car may be a great candidate for a Bloomington Gold Survivor Award. The originality, documentation and low documented original miles makes this convertible a great investment opportunity. These opportunities do not come available very often. History: The engine assembly was completed on May, 20. 1968. (Engine Stamped V0520HO). The car was built on May 24, 1968. (Trim tag coded J24) The car was then shipped to Colliau Chevrolet at 711 Fair Oaks Avenue in South Pasadena, California. The car was purchased by a gentleman from Glendale California and put into service on June 21, 1968. The car resided in Southern California until it was sold to a couple in the Central Valley of California in 1987. That couple owned the car until 2006. Friends of theirs, who had originally told them about the car for sale in 1987, had always been interested in the car. They decided to sell it to them in 2006. I recently purchased the car from that friend. Documentation: A true collector car for investment purposes must have some original documentation to verify the originality and options that a car was built with from the factory. The documentation for this corvette includes: Original Window Sticker-Yes, the original window sticker-not a reproduction! The following options are listed on the window sticker: Paint code 976-LeMans Blue Interior Code 414-Medium Blue M40-Turbo Hydra-Matic G81-Positract Axle 308R J50-Power Brakes U69-AM/FM Radio A31-Power Windows C60-4-Season Air Cond. The metal plate was used to identify the owner by just “swiping” the plate similar to the old style credit card machines. Tank Sticker-The sticker is still located on top of the gas tank, where it should be. It is visible with a mirror. Original Owners Manual Original Dealer Sales Brochure Original Owner Card for free Subscription to Corvette News Magazine There are many receipts from throughout the years verifying that the 70,500 miles are original. The California title also has the actual mileage stated as verified and original. Originality separates a true collector car from just a nice car. (DOT 127) Carburetor-Not Original-Replacement Rochester 4-barrel Mechanical Condition: As you can see from the pictures, this car is as original as they come. The engine and compartment have not had any painting since original. The car drives excellent. There is no engine smoke on start-up or any other time. The engine runs strong. The transmission is in excellent shape. It shifts nicely and has no problems. The original A.I.R. system is fully functional. The brake pads appear new. Tires and wheels are in great shape. The heater/ac blower is not currently working. The A/C compressor is connected and spins with no problems. The wiper door is not opening. There is plenty of vacuum, since the headlights work fine. Exterior: As stated previously, the paint appears original. The fiberglass bonding/molding lines are visible on both fenders and quarter panels.. As you can see in the pictures, it still maintains a nice shine. Up close, it shows its age. I would call it a 20-footer. I would never repaint it because it is only original once! All glass is original as detailed above. There are no scratches or chips in glass. The chrome bumpers have been re-plated and are in perfect condition. The black soft top is only a couple of years old and looks and works like new. (See picture) The hard top has original paint and matches the appearance of the car. The rear glass is in excellent condition. Interior: The interior is mostly original. The only items that have needed replacement are the seat covers, the door panels and the stereo. I have the original door panels. The carpet has no tears, but has faded. The rest of the interior is in excellent condition. The clock is the only instrument that is not working. (as usual) Underside: The frame is perfect. No rust at all. (See picture). This is why it is so nice to have a true California car! Nothing has been replaced with the exception of the shocks and exhaust. The original unused spare tire still resides in the tire holder. The tank sticker is still on the tank!
