Vehicle Detail

For your consideration is a 1974 Bricklin. There are many things to consider when purchasing a Brick. The car was designed to use the lighter AMC 360 4V engine The transmission is a 727 Torqueflyte. The same trans that can handle being thrashed behind a Hemi. Through no fault of Bricklin, AMC couldn't keep up with the demands of making engines for both compainies. Bricklin was forced to redevelop the chassis for the 351 Windsor. All the while production kept running. If you have the privlege of seeing both versions of Bricklins you can easily see that the higher horsepower AMC combo is further back into the firewall then the Windsor as it is jutted forward to accomidate the heavy/bulky FMX trans. The Ford guys would like you to think this latter combo is better. If you want a faster Bricklin there seems to be more performance parts for the Ford. That is where the comparison ends. Today you can get AMC aluminum heads and engine blocks and custom ground steel cranks and more. Today AMC's can easily make 500HP. This is the secret of the better Bricklin as the 1974 version is better balanced and handles better. The production of the 74 AMC powered cars are only 780 compaired to 2062 Ford units. Some of the restoration costs spent on this car is the ($2800) air door conversion. The doors originaly would be slow to open and then fail altogether. This upgrade works as it should. The doors open and shut. You can lock the doors from the inside with a switch or with the key on the outside. It also has the pop up air headlight conversion. This is also a superior upgrade over the complicated and problem vacuum Corvette style headlight motors. Bricks do have severe engine heat transfer issues. Many current and former owners won't mention baking while driving them only for a short time. Cars would run super hot making them uncomfortable to drive sometimes would even shut down due heat. One major upgrade over anything else listed for sale is this car has the heat transfer issues addresed. What was done. One, A heavy duty radiator was installed. Next, The filler panel between the energy absorbing front bumper removed to let cold air enter the engine compartment, Next It has a later front under bumper air foil (or scoop) Something Bricklin did much later in 1975 production that many overlook. it has custom air vents cut into the side of both front fenders much like a Trans AM. Cold air in. Hot air out. It is that simple. The 360 feels good. Under the car is very nice and no rust. It looks to have many new parts. Exhaust is good and has a great sound. On the inside it has Black interior. New carpets throughout. Steering wheel is nice. Dash is nice. Rare console. Has a tilt column too. These cars have many options including a built in roll cage. The car is not without fault. It is mainly cosmetic and typical Bricklin issues. The car was painted. From a distance it looks great as in the pics but does have paint issues. It still turns heads and looks great for a driver. Nicks and chips and poor touch up around the bumpers and door edges. The paint job must have cost a fortune when originally done as it is smooth and no imperfections. The panel fit is nice and looks straight. There is a typical crack on the top where it meets the side of the door skin. No other apparant visable cracks. It runs fine but it was in storage and wasn't driven for several years. We just had the carb rebuilt. We have added fresh fuel but the gas still smells bad. The only issue with the mechanical part of the car I suspect the vaccuum advance in the distributor is only working part of the time. I had planned to install an electronic distributer. Typical Bricklin issues include. The temp gauge just recently stopped working. The needle moves when you turn the power on but doesn't seem to move when it warms up. The speedo needle is broken. Miles show 28K. Because the speedo is inop the miles are stated original but I cannot verify. Most Bricks have very low miles and this car shows it. We have driven it local and never far from home. The A/C worked last fall but now needs charged. Tires are good. New shocks rebuilt brake booster. It stops straight. Due to the car spending time in storage I would recomend hauling it to its new home. I have a shipper if needed. Please use your head when buying a vintage car that you do not know and taking it on a long trip. The car has had lots of work done to it and many upgrades but it is being sold as a project and is as is and as seen. You are welcome to inspect in person by appointment before auction ends. There will be no inspections after auction has ended. I take Paypal in my other collectable auctions however not on vehicles. I will require a $500. non refundable deposit sent overnight after the auction, Payment in full within 7 days. I will accept moneyorders, cash on pickup after your deposit has been recieved or bank wire (from your bank to mine) I would like the car to be picked up within 3 weeks or unless other arrangements have been made prior. I do have a transporter who could assist in shipping. Please email any questions. I do my best to describe but may miss something important to you. Please do your own dilligence. This is a great chance to buy a car with the total costs to upgrade really just about make it free. Be carefull in purchasing a Bricklin that is more of a project. Do not buy on the cheap. These are the cars where paying a little more saves headaches later. If you do not understand this listing please do not bid. If you have 0 or little feedback email first before you bid. Thanks for looking and be sure to check out my AMC AMX in my other auctions.
