Vehicle Detail
1973 JEEP CJ5 Up for sale is a 1973 Jeep CJ5 with a 304 V8 engine. This Jeep is currently a 3rd vehicle although I use the Jeep up to daily. LIke many folks today, the economic state has caught up with me and I must get rid of some of my toys. About the engine: Over the past year I have replaced many parts on the engine mostly for preventive measures. The parts include new plugs, wires, distributor (with electronic ignition conversion), fuel pump, fuel filter, starter relay, starter solenoid. The engine runs good and strong but smokes upon startup (I've been told this is probably the valve guides). This does not appear to have an adverse effect on the overall running condition of the engine. Many of the aforementioned parts are still under warranty. The carburetor is a Holley 1850 four barrel with an Edelbrock intake manifold. It has headers connected to straight pipes that exit before the rear tire. This beast can be heard from a very long distance. The engine holds good pressure throughout the course of running and does not appear to have bad rings. All gauges work good. The one problem that I see is that the carburetor needs to be tuned or rebuilt. I am basing this on the fact that when I "floor it" it backfires through the carburetor and then picks up RPM. It should be noted that this is NOT always the case but typically happens when the engine is not fully warmed up yet. This Jeep has a heater and yes, it works! The Transmission is in good condition. It is also the original 3-speed. The clutch is good. Obviously this is a 4WD vehicle which works fine. It should be noted that I have NEVER taken this Jeep off road! The body is in good condition considering it is 37 years old. The paint looks great but has some minor flaws. I recently installed roll bar extensions to connect to the front windshield for added safety and to be able to put my surfboard (and other things) on the roof. I just put brand new off road tires (31 x 10.50) and rims on the Jeep which probably have under a 1000 miles on them. I have completely rebuilt the braking system to include the master cylinder, wheel cylinders (4), pads (4), brake lines, and brand new emergency brake cable system. I put brand new rancho S5000 shocks (4) on the Jeep a few months ago with matching steering stabilizer. I recently painted the interior of the Jeep with the spray-in bed liner. All electronics (both LOL) work fine, blinkers work, headlights work, and this is completely 100% drivable today. It should be noted that the windshield is cracked on the driver side bottom but does NOT comprise the driver's view. Replacement cost is about $129.00. The purchase of this Jeep will include a full soft top with soft doors and a bikini top. This Jeep does not have a rear bench seat. I have the title in hand and this is priced to sell. Serious inquiries only please. The winning bidder will need to provide a $250.00 NON-REFUNDABLE deposit through paypal within 48 hours of the end of the auction. Also, please note that I have this for sale locally and reserve the right to end the auction early. Thanks for looking and good luck. If you should have any questions regarding the Jeep or need more pictures please contact me at bary.kemble@gmail.com On Jul-04-10 at 10:03:47 PDT, seller added the following information:Guys, a concern came up this morning that I think should be addressed. I'm sure MOST of you understand this but just in case, this is NOT a rebuilt Jeep. This has NOT been restored to new condition and if you are considering purchasing this Jeep please understand that this Jeep is 37 years old!!!! The Jeep runs and looks great but is NOT in mint condition. With that said, if you have ANY questions or want to come by for a test drive feel free to contact me for an appointment. Good luck!
