1974 Pontiac Grand Ville Convertible Click Image for Photos Pontiac 1974 Grand Ville Elegant and luxurious, the Grand Ville replaced the Bonneville as Pontiac’s top line series in 1971. The full-size vehicle spoke of comfort and power with its spacious interior, large, padded bench seats and powerful V-8 engine. For 1974, the Grand Ville received a distinctive new chrome grille and special formal roofline, but the oil crisis of the early 1970s would cut the model’s production run short. The Grand Ville was discontinued in 1975 and became the last of the full-sized Pontiac convertibles until 1984. With production numbers never breaking 5,000 units per year, convertibles were rarer than the other available Grand Ville body styles. Drivetrain: The Pontiac listed here retains its stock 455 cubic inch, V-8 engine with Turbo Hydra-Matic transmission. It starts and runs well, although we’ve only driven it around the facility, so we can’t vouch for how it will run above parking lot speeds. Standard equipment includes 4-wheel coil-spring suspension, variable-ratio power steering and power front disc brakes (with drum brakes in the rear). The brakes work great and the Pirelli tires are in excellent shape looking brand new. In addition, there are no apparent leaks. Exterior: Doors, hood and trunk fit well and shut tightly. Soft top appears to be in good shape, no rips or tears. The power-operated convertible top works going down but needs a little help going up. The rear window is tempered glass and in good condition, no cracks. The Ascot Silver paint looks good except for a few chips and minor bubbling near the driver’s side rear wheel well. The exhaust pipe is rusted and there is some surface rust in the engine bay but the undercarriage looks solid. Spare tire and jack are in trunk. Interior: With deep-pile carpeting and acoustical insulation throughout the cabin’s interior, Pontiac enthusiastically promoted the quiet ride of the luxurious Grand Ville. The red vinyl interior, with American walnut wood grain trim, is in good condition except for a couple of tears on the driver’s side of the front seat. In addition, there is a large rip in the vinyl running the length of the back seat. The nylon-blend, loop-pile carpet is in good shape and there is spare carpet in the trunk. Standard equipment includes AM/FM stereo and air-conditioning (which is currently not blowing cold air). All of the windows go up and down except for the driver’s window which goes almost all the way down. Overall: Please keep in mind that this Pontiac was sitting in storage for an extended period of time and was probably in need of attention before that.
