1981 JEEP CJ-5, AUTOMATIC, 6 CYLINDER 4.2 VERY LOW RESERVE...CHEAPER THEN A 4X4 ATV!!!! I have for sale a 1981 Jeep CJ-5, which comes with the factory 6 cylinder 4.2 engine carburated. Has a three speed automatic transmission with 4x4. It has about an 8 inch lift by bringing the leaf springs over the axles. Its got 4.56 gears in front and in the rear axles. It also has a CV out the rear driveshaft for better driveline angle. To my understanding-the engine is stock with the stock carburator. It does have an aftermarket air cleaner cover to protect from water splash. I has a stock type muffler without a cat. Sounds pretty heathy. The body is clean, solid and the Forest Green paint is shiny. There are many little dings, dents, scratches, scuffs, surface rust and there has been some body work-like some bondo also, there is some rust but looks really good. The window frame is very solid with no signs of rust and the glass along with rubber molding is in excellent shape. But, the floors have been replaced by sheet metal. From the underneath carage it can be seen that there where signs of rust but have been either patched with bondo, fiberglass or treated with rustproofing paint. Im just naming all this so there are no surprises. But, the body is in really good shape for the year and as all the cj's I have have seen, this one is very clean with minimal rust. The only major rust and I say major because its the only spot where it can be determined as a rust problem is: under the rear leg of the driverside seat-there is some rust which causes that leg to be loose. You can see what im saying in the photo and in the video. The bed is solid with no soft spots and looks good. The tail gate is a custom diamond plate one off piece that works good and looks great. The seats are light grey that are from really good to excellent shape including the rear seat. The roll cage padding is also in good shape which compliment the seats very well. Also has a bikini top in very good shape. All these items are fairly new and are from BesTop. There are two gauges on the dash that are either cracked or broken but the volt meter does mark. The main gauge is missing so there is no odometer, fuel guage, temp or speedo. The headlamps do work with low/high beam and the blinkers do work in both directions. There are no wipers and the wiper motor does not work. The rims are pretty much new and are American Racing type wheels that have been Factory painted in silver-which have a very glossy and shiny finish. They are 16.5 x 12 and are wrapped in rubber by Super Swampers TSL's that are 39.5 tall x 15 wide with 16.5 diameter. The tires are about half tread while the front passenger tire has a little less tread then the others. This Jeep was a father and son project for many years and was used mainly for trail riding and the occasional mudding. I bought it with the intentions of making it a street worthing vehicle but other expenses have brought me to a halt. Dont get me wrong, the jeep drives really good on the road with the 39.5 inch tall tires, but there is some play in the steering and the brakes could be better. The 4x4 works great but, like all cj's sometimes you have to go forward then backwards or vise versa so it engages. Its and old jeep so stuff like that is expected. The transmission shifts into all gears and shifts smoothly through the gears. There is no smoke out the tail pipe and the engine sounds really good. I just did an oil change so you are good there. There is a small oil leak from the front of the oil pan but only when it gets hot otherwise its parked on my driveway and no other leaks except for a rear driver axle seal that would have to be replaced because there was a little axle oil coming from the inside wheel. This jeep is in really nice shape and a joy to drive, runs great and all day. Just took it out over the past weekend and everything worked as it should. Its a toy that is very fun. You can drive it on the street but you would have to get mirrors, horn and wipers. I do suggest that if you really want this jeep, that you call me and or schedule to come by and look and drive it before you purchase it but you will not be dissapointed especially with the very low reserve...I do have it listed locally, so I do have the right to end the auction short for a local sale.
