Very Reasonable Reserve!! 1966 Volkswagen Type 2 Riviera Camper Bus --walk through model-- All Original as it was sold by the VW dealer in 1966.-- I'm the second owner, it lived at the same address for 41 years and was in a dry garage for 15 years when I came along.-- It has 163,000 original miles on it!-- It's a camper !- water tank with pump, icebox fridge, rear seat folds down to make a very comfortable bed. It has the original paint, original teal colored vinyl interior in the camper, original floor, original interior lights, original wood paneling - it's all original (except for the curtains - obviously). Except the engine, it's the original engine, but it was rebuilt about 15K ago and was bored out to 1600 cc's and balanced, single carb was changed to two Stromberg 40's, exhaust was hopped up etc. This was all done by the top VW shop in Seattle, the end result is the bus climbs hills and passes other cars as it does so. My friends are surprised by it's get up and go!-- In the last three thousand miles it has received new tires, new wheel cylinders, new brake shoes, new air filters, new battery (last week) and a leaking gas line was replaced. Also noise deadening material over rear compartment. The bus has been a trouble free and a lot of fun to drive - lots of peace signs and thumbs up from others, many want to talk about the bus and many have stories about the good times when they had one. The bus has a great vibe and it just gives you a great feeling when you're in it. Since I've had it I started listening to a lot of The Doors, Hendrix, Grateful Dead etc. - it just brings that out in you and going down the highway at 60 doesn't seem so bad, she'll do 70+ but that is pushing it. I understand there is something you can do to change the gearing (reduction gears?) to increase top speed but I did not find the need to do so.-- When my friend went with his father to buy it in 1966 he could not talk his Dad to spending $7.82 more - the result is this is an auction for a 6 volt bus. This was the year you could get either a 6 or 12 volt bus, - so the wipers are a bit slower and the headlights would normally be a bit dimmer, but this bus has halogen lights so things are lit up quite well. Signal lights work but the collar on the column needs to be tightened up. The gas gauge has not been working since I got it but it came alive yesterday so I don't know about it, also a new horn needs to be hooked up.-- The front seats are original and definitely need to be recovered. The bus is 44 years old so there are some scrapes in the interior here and there but nothing bad and it all has a very comfortable look and feel to it, it even smells good.-- The original paint has some great areas and some challenges with some chips and dings but to anyone who knows VW Buses the amount of rust here is very minimal. It has some of the usual problems - under the battery, at the drivers feet and at the corners of the sills just in front of the wheel wells. The engine compartment door has some problems on the inside but I have a used replacement for that. Other than that, just some surface rust at the bottom of doors and under the headlights. The bus will come with all the new sheet metal for the problem areas (e.g battery area, front floor - there are photos of the pieces on photobucket), for the time when some one decides to improve on her.-- The paint shines like new in some areas but there are lots of very small pin head and match head size pocks that have been touched up to block any rust. I just have not had the heart to paint her, I read an article in the ROBB Report talking about a Concours event in Europe explaing why the original vehicles were getting huge money and the response was "you can only have an unrestored vehicle once". I liked that, so I decided to conserve her rather than restore her. Some may want to have her look like new - that will be up to her new owner - I prefer that she show her character and that she was aging gracefully. With the photos on photobucket I've done my best to show all the problem areas as best I could and I think I did a good job of showing them. Check out : http://s877.photobucket.com/albums/ab340/Rufustheamazing/ Mechanically the bus is great and could be driven anywhere, steering is tight, brakes are great, suspension is great, transmission is great, engine is strong - fuel tank should be taken out and cleaned up, I do go through a few filters but that is the worst of it. If the high bidder is in California, I'll even consider delivering her to CA depending on timing.--- Included will be the original plates, original brochure, original 80 page owners manual, original service booklet with the original plastic owners warranty customer identification card. I also had most of the work records including the engine work but I have moved in the last year and there are missing - they are not lost - just missing, they are here somewhere, when I find them they will be sent to the new owner but that is just good intentions at this time, I can't make a 100% promise.-- I want the new owner to enjoy her as much as I have so I'd like to be as helpful in this process as possible. There are a few pics on Ebay but I have more posted at photobucket and should anyone have any request for a specific photo of something, please ask.--- I would like to have the winning bidder - (and in this case I do mean winning! -this is a great opportunity to have an excellent example of a very unique character vehicle - you'll love it!) make a Paypal deposit of $500 within 2 days and the remaining amount to be deposited into my Wells Fargo account (wire transfer preferably) within 5 days.--- I will assist with any shipping as best I can, the bus will be in Everett WA 98203.--- We all need to get started somewhere, but I do ask that potential bidders with less than 5 feedbacks contact me prior to bidding. Thank you for bearing with my ramblings I do hope I was able to convey some pertinent information - should there be any question just ask. On Jun-02-10 at 08:12:46 PDT, seller added the following information: I forgot to mention---- the reason the bus is in such good shape, is that it was undercoated when it was new! - that is why so little rust - the undercoating did it's job. You can see how thick the application was on some of the photobucket photos. On Jun-02-10 at 09:38:30 PDT, seller added the following information: Also - new fuel pump 3 months ago. On Jun-03-10 at 10:10:16 PDT, seller added the following information: Of course the Safari rack comes with it! and I forgot to mention it has the aftermarket deep oil pan as well
