Vehicle Detail
Up for bid is my 1985 MR2. I am the third owner of the car. It was first owned by a woman in Mississippi who worked for a Toyota dealership. The owner of the dealership gave it to her, and she kept it for over 20 years, putting about 60K on it during that time. She sold it through the dealership to the second owner who drove it as a daily driver for one year, putting another 10K on it. I bought it about 1 ½ years ago as my “mid-life” crisis. I put it in my garage under a custom cover and have driven it less than 1000 miles in that time. I had an 85 MR2 in college, and have really enjoyed taking this new MR2 out on sunny days from time to time. The reality however is that I’m not a wealthy car collector with a large garage, so every day I have to go out in the rain, blazing sun, or frost to my daily driver, I wonder if it makes sense to keep a car I only drive once a month or so. As such, I’m putting my MR2 up for auction to see if there is someone else like me that would like a new toy from time to time. This car looks and performs like new in virtually every respect. Although it is not a true show car, it does turn heads wherever it goes. Everything works including the a/c which has been converted to R134a refrigerant. It has every power option available, and they all work. I produced a video showing the car and many of the features in operation which I recommend any serious bidders should watch. If you are a serious MR2 enthusiast, you may be curious about the wheels and side skirts on an 85. The wheels are from a Supercharged MR2 and I like them better than the stock “triangles”. If you prefer the originals, I still have them, and they are in new condition. Also, the car is a true 1985, but it does have the later side skirts. I assume that those were added by the dealership at a later date. Personally, I really liked them, and was glad to get an 85 which has front and rear swaybars but the look of the later cars. I have the original gear shift knob, but the leather was breaking down so I switched out to the leather wrapped knob in the photos. Also, as mentioned in the video, I have the original radio, ashtray, and steering wheel which will go with the car. I’ll keep the wheel in the photos because it was the one I used in my first MR2 many years ago. I welcome any questions about the car, and can provide more photos of anything you may be interested in seeing. As far as bidding, please only bid if you are serious and planning to buy a car. If the car does sell, I hope it is to someone who will continue to care for it and enjoy it for years to come. If the bidding doesn’t meet the reserve, I’ll just continue to enjoy the car and possibly re-list it from time to time. A successful bidder will be expected to make a $500 deposit within 72 hours of auction end. The car is located in Bowling Green, Kentucky and I see no reason why it couldn’t be driven anywhere.
