1981 Honda CM400a "Hondamatic" Motorcycle EXCELLENT CONDITION!! ONLY 4,320 MILES!! PRICED TO SELL!!! Up for grabs is my 1981 Honda CM400a. This is truly a wonderful bike, and I've had a lot of fun with it! Unfortunately, I have other financial priorities which are forcing me to sell her...but my loss is your gain!! For those who are unfamiliar with the "Hondamatic" series of motorcycles, here's some background: Honda made the "Hondamatic" for its CB/CM series of motorcycles from 1976-83. It was available in a 400, 450, and even a 750cc engine. All else on the bike was the equivalent to the manual transmission models. The only difference was that amazing automatic transmission which Honda aptly named the "Hondamatic". The automatic transmission on this bike has two (2) foward gears which can be shifted without using a clutch. In fact, there is no clutch lever. Where the clutch lever normally would be is an "emergency brake" setup to keep the bike rolling when parked as you can't really leave this bike "in gear" to prevent rolling. But if you want a true automatic, you can put it in high gear (2nd gear) and drive that like all day without having to shift even once. These motorcycles were virtually bulletproof and this bike sounds like a well oiled sewing machine...it is that quiet!! It runs and rides as good as it looks!! This is an excellent survivor of a wonderful motorcycle!! And for a bike that is nearly 30 years old...it's in wonderful shape!! The paint and chrome are in excellent condition...not totally perfect (i.e. you can see in the picture that there's a little tarnish on the front end of the exhaust pipes) but remember, this is a 1981 motorcycle. It is perfect for beginners, riders who don't want a very heavy bike, and for those that don't want to be bothered with shifting. And the fuel economy is excellent...you can expect about 50-60 mpg. It has a brand new battery, a new starter, and the tires are in good shape. I'm not a very picky seller...all I ask is for a $250 deposit upon completion of sale and the full payment with 5 days of auction end. I will gladly work with a shipper of your choice.
