Vehicle Detail

Well, I bought this beauty in 1996 from the second owner down in Georgia where I lived for 5 years; he found it in the original owner's barn. I learned how to work on cars on this 1960 Volkswagen Beetle and replaced many of the mechanical parts: master cylinder, king and link pins, brakes, 009 Bosch Distributor, electronic ignition, all the window rubber seals, starter, pushrod tubes, clutch cable, & sealed the gas tank. When I bought it, it had already been converted to 12 volts and had a 1500cc motor installed. The odometer read 93,000 miles when I acquired it (it now clicked over 100,000 and reads 0020), but the miles on the new motor was unknown. I did a compression test when I bought it and all was well-- this car was my daily driver for nearly 4 years, including about 6 trips up the east coast to NY and back to Georgia. If I couldn't fix it, I brought it to Doster Brothers in Athens, GA, (3 older brothers that only worked on Volkswagens and had a sea of kudzu-covered Volks' on their property) and I still have all the receipts. The only issue was that when the 1500cc motor was installed with a universal mount, the 2nd owner cut the metal inside the engine compartment to make it fit--I know, an idiotic move, but I fashioned some sheet metal to make it as airtight as I could, and I tried to show this in the pics. The original steering wheel was also removed by the 2nd owner as well. I bought it with Porsche rims already on it; otherwise, this car is ALL ORIGINAL-- I even have the original ignition key. It's the original headliner, interior, Blaupunkt radio, exterior body...everything. When I moved back to New York, I drove it on the weekends until mid-2003 when I parked it in my grandma's garage, and it's been sitting there ever since. The interior has some mold on it (will wipe off) and there's obvious dust on the exterior body, but I left it as is to show that it's been stored. The driver side door panel is missing, and the ONLY rust are 2 dime-sized spots under the headlights, and underneath the battery compartment. I saved this car to one day restore it, but as is often the case, I now have a baby and don't have that kind of time (or space). I would love to sell it to someone who appreciates the history and originality of this vehicle, and will restore it to its original grandeur. I love this car and cared for it with all my heart, but it deserves to be restored and driven. In the vein of John Muir, the energy is good with this car. There is a low reserve, but the car goes to the highest bidder. All shipping fees will be paid by the buyer. Good luck.
