THIS IS THE MOST POWERFUL ENGINE EVER PUT IN A GENERAL MOTORS AUTOMOBILE. The supercharger features four lobes instead of the usual three for higher power and efficiency. It also features an intercooler to cool down the air/fuel charge for more power. In addition, nozzles squirt oil into the underside of each piston for maximum cooling. The engine also features a dual-pressure fuel injection system for peak performance during multiple operating conditions. Like the LS7 engine in the Z06, the LS9 features titanium connecting rods and exhaust valves as well as a dry-sump oil system with a larger capacity reservoir - now 10.5 quarts. The LS9 is hand-assembled at the GM Performance Build Center in Wixom, Mich. Dry-Sump Oil System The dry-sump oil systems on the Z06 LS7 and ZR1 LS9 engines prevent oil starvation on high-g corners or under heavy braking. The system uses an additional oil reservoir separate from the crankcase and pumps oil through the engine to ensure proper lubrication under high-performance situations. Oil capacity has been increased to 10.5 quarts for 2009. Brembo® Carbon Ceramic Brakes ZR1 (very limited availability) employs Brembo® brakes, which feature carbon ceramic matrix rotors for excellent heat dissipation. The advantages are superior friction and thermal properties. Unlike the carbon rotors on a race car, these rotors do not need to be hot in order to work effectively. The vented and cross-drilled rotors measure 15.5 inches (394mm) in diameter in the front and 15 inches (380mm) in the rear - making them among the largest carbon ceramic rotors available on any production vehicle. While large in size, they are also low in mass, saving approximately 11 lbs. per rotor over comparable cast-iron units. Like the Z06, the ZR1 features six-piston front calipers and four-piston rear calipers. The fronts utilize a single pad measuring 148 sq. cm. (22.9 sq. in.) in surface area - double the 70 sq. cm. pad size of Z06. Carbon-Fiber Front Air Splitter The ZR1 (very limited availability) comes with a standard visible carbon-fiber front air splitter that works in conjunction with the carbon fiber rocker extensions and rear spoiler to enhance stability at high speeds. It features a special clearcoat designed to resist the effects of weather and UV rays. Domed Hood with Supercharger Window The ZR1 (very limited availability) features a carbon fiber hood with a clear window to view the Eaton® TVS™ (Twin Vortices Series) supercharger unit. Double-Wishbone Suspension Coupe Corvettes feature a Short/Long Arm (SLA) double-wishbone suspension with forged-aluminum A-arms and transverse composite springs. The ZR1 (very limited availability) use a similar geometry to the Z06 but with wider wheels and tires to achieve a rating of lateral 1.05g. The standard suspension is Magnetic Selective Ride Control. Magnetic Selective Ride Control This system adjusts shock-absorber damping in real time by means of electromagnetically charged particles contained within the shock fluid. When exposed to a magnetic charge, the fluid properties change, forming a near-solid state. With wheel position sensors at each wheel, the system literally reads and responds to every inch of the road, immediately adjusts the damper force on each wheel, and responds to changing road and driving conditions. Unlike traditional mechanical shock valves, there is practically no limit to the range of soft-to-firm damping capability. And it responds five times faster than previous Real Time Damping (RTD) systems. There are two cockpit settings, "Tour" and "Sport", managed by a single switch located on the center console. The "Tour" setting provides more ride comfort and compliance for everyday driving conditions, while the "Sport" setting provides a firmer ride for performance driving and more communication of road feel. 2010 models now include Performance Traction Management (PTM) technology. The system, part of the new Launch Control feature, is used to optimize traction for greater and more consistent on-track performance thanks to its ability to hold a predetermined engine speed while the driver pushes the throttle to the floor. When full throttle is applied upon exiting a corner, the system automatically manages acceleration dynamics. As well as five additional settings available for all types of driving conditions. Such a feature allows the driver to quickly release the clutch, as PTM modulates engine torque 100 times per second to maximize the available traction. PTM also integrates ZR1's traction control, active handling and selective ride control systems. PTM Mode #1 – Wet This is the mode intended for use during damp or wet track conditions by drivers of all skill levels. Engine torque is management based on the given track conditions. Active Handling is enabled. PTM Mode #2 – Dry This is the mode intended for use on dry track conditions by less experienced drivers or those learning a new track. Engine torque is slightly managed based on the given track conditions. Active Handling is enabled. PTM Mode #3 – Sport This is the mode intended for use on dry track conditions by drivers who are familiar with the track they are driving. This mode requires more driver skill than PTM Mode #2. More engine torque is available than in Mode #2. Active Handling is enabled. PTM Mode #4 – Sport This is the mode intended for use on dry track conditions by drivers who are familiar with the track they are driving. This mode requires more driver skill than PTM Mode #3. The same level of engine torque is available as in Mode #3. Active Handling is disabled. PTM Mode #5 – Race This is the mode intended for use on dry track conditions by experienced drivers who are familiar with the track they are driving. This mode will require more driver skill than all the other modes. Available engine torque is maximized for cornering speed. Active Handling is disabled. Cross-drilled brake rotors are included on cars equipped with available Magnetic Selective Ride Control. Standard on ZR1 (very limited availability), not available on Z06. Short-Throw Six-Speed Manual Transmission If you like crisp, fast shifting, you'll savor the short-throw six-speed manual transmission that's standard in all models. The shifter itself is designed to be an extension of your hand, with improved shifting effort. Along with a light-clutch effort, it allows for lighter, faster shifts in either a joystick or palm-hand position. Because the transmission is located in the rear of the car and is connected to the engine by means of a transaxle and torque tube, Corvette achieves a near 50/50 weight distribution for better overall performance. Xenon High-Intensity Discharge Headlamps The low beams are a xenon high-intensity discharge projector lamp, coupled with tungsten-halogen high beams. At 900 lumens, the headlamps provide significant forward lighting power. The low beams also have a spread pattern that is wider than conventional headlamps. Variable-Ratio Steering NEW variable-ratio steering, standard on Corvette, ZR1, varies the steering ratio depending upon the steering angle. The steering is engineered to react more slowly on center for better on-center feel at speed. 20-Spoke Chrome Aluminum Wheel Our ZR1 (very limited availability) is equipped with the 20-spoke chrome aluminum wheels that are 19 inches in diameter at the front and 20 inches at the rear. The wheels are mounted to the widest standard tires ever offered on a Corvette - Michelin® Pilot® Sport PS2® tires, which are developed specifically for the ZR1 and measure P285/30ZR-19 in front and P335/25ZR-20 in the rear. Dual-Zone Air Conditioning Every Corvette comes with standard dual-zone automatic climate control. The system automatically maintains the driver- and passenger-selected temperature settings. Tire Pressure Monitor In the event the tire pressure in any of the vehicle's tires drops below 26 psi, the monitor signals the driver via a message on the Driver Information Center. You can also monitor each tire's pressure to the nearest one psi. Corvette is equipped with Extended Mobility Tires (EMT) that are designed to operate at 0 psi air pressure for up to 100 miles at 55 mph should a flat occur. Auxiliary Audio Input Jack Bring an auxiliary cable and your iPod®(1) or other personal MP3 player with you. Corvette has a jack for you to plug in your MP3 player so you can listen to your portable tunes through your stereo. Available on all radios except navigation radio. Active Handling System The Active Handling System is an electronic symphony of Traction Control and antilock brakes along with microcomputers, accelerometers and stability sensors. While no system can overcome the laws of physics, Active Handling compares driver steering input with actual vehicle response. When necessary, it uses individual wheel brake application, the Traction Control System and, if equipped, Magnetic Selective Ride Control standard on ZR1; to maximize the driver's ability to maintain stability and stay on track. NEW for 2009: variable-ratio steering is standard on all models. __________________________________________________________________ XM Radio XM Radio with three trial months is standard. XM turns your world on with commercial-free music channels from rock to jazz, country to classical, Latin pop to hip-hop, and virtually everything in between, all in amazing digital sound. Passenger Sensing System Every Corvette is equipped with standard dual-stage frontal air bags(1) that feature a Passenger Sensing System which measures the weight of the passenger. If that weight is below an established minimum, the system suppresses air bag deployment. OnStar Every Corvette provides peace of mind with OnStar(1) (standard for one year) to help protect you and your family on the road with nine safety and security features. An OnStar Advisor is always ready to help in a variety of situations, whether you've locked your keys your car(2) or have a flat tire. And with Automatic Crash Response, if you're involved in certain types of collisions, built-in sensors can automatically alert an OnStar Advisor who is immediately connected into your vehicle and can request emergency help be sent to your determined location. Extended Mobility Tires Every Corvette is equipped with "Run-Flat" Extended Mobility Tires (EMT) that help eliminate the need for a spare. The tire design helps enable safe function during and after loss of pressure for up to 100 miles of continuous driving at 55 mph. Keep in mind that the shorter the distance you drive with the loss of pressure, the better the chance the tire can be repaired. Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires are the standard tire on this vehicle and are built around the Corvette ZR1, with many aspects to help in different driving conditions. Head-Up Display The available Head-Up Display (HUD) projects selected key vehicle information - even directions from an available navigation system - onto the windshield, allowing the driver to focus on driving. Standard in ZR1. There are three settings for HUD - street, track 1 and track 2 - selectable by the mode button. In total, there are 10 different display combinations the driver can select, including vehicle speed, engine rpm, a performance upshift guide for the six-speed manual transmission, and readings from key gauges, such as temperature and oil pressure. A real-time g-meter also displays lateral acceleration in track mode. Memory Package With the Memory Package, Corvette can be programmed to accept two different driver settings for the six-way power driver seat, outside power rearview mirrors and available power-telescoping steering column. The personalized settings are linked to their respective keyless access transmitter. An easy-exit setting can also be programmed. ZR1 Seats ZR1 (very limited availability) comes with standard bucket seats with perforated leather seating surfaces, special ZR1 embroidery and contrasting stitching. Our Interior on this vehicle is solid ebony, Side-Impact Air Bags Side-impact air bags are designed to help reduce the risk of head injuries to occupants on the near side of certain side-impact collisions Steering Wheel-Mounted Audio Controls We've brought the control to you.
