Vehicle Detail
Very solid 1966 Mustang Coupe with 200 c.i. 6 cylinder engine and 3 speed manual transmission. It is the basic configuration- manual steering, manual brakes, and no AC. Although basic, it does get surprisingly good gas mileage (upper 20's for me). According to the previous owner, it has been repainted once in the original "Springtime yellow" color. It spent most of its life in Texas and was brought to Ohio sometime around 2000. Since then, it has been garaged and never driven in the winter. Also according to the previous owner, the mileage of 90950 is accurate. The only modifications I can see are that an aftermarket radio was installed in the dash at one time (2 holes drilled as seen in the photos), and now it has a newer radio installed in the glove box. I'm not an expert but the car does not appear to have any body work done in the usual Mustang problem areas such as floor pans, trunk, etc. The floors are very solid inside and out with only some slight surface rust in some areas. It appears to have the original black undercarriage paint. The area where the inner rear quarter panels meet the trunk has some rust but not bad. There are a couple small bubbles coming thru the paint in the area below and rearward of each door. And finally there is some slight surface rust in the rear quarter wheel well edge. Considering it has not been restored, the amount of rust is very minor. Interior condition is very good- no visible cracks in the dash or the seats. The bumper and trim chrome is also in very good shape- no pits, etc. I purchased the car in 2004 and have put less than 2000 miles on it, but it has not given us any trouble in that time. There does seem to be a small leak at the exhaust manifold. The manifold looks good, so it might be the seal between the manifold and exhaust pipe. The rest of the exhaust pipe and muffler is somewhat rusty but not loud. Other minor issues are the windshield wiper fluid (either the pump or it's clogged), and a slight oil drip from the rear differential. It does not appear to burn or leak oil in any noticeable way. It does produce some black soot out the tailpipe for a couple seconds after being started after sitting for awhile. The steering is somewhat loose on center but I had no problems driving it 200 miles last month. Overall, it's a nice solid car that is in great shape for being 44 years old. With a little attention to the small rust areas and a mechanical inspection I think this would make a great useable classic Mustang.
