Vehicle Detail

This bike has had a complete nut and bolt restoration by Jimbo's Classic Sidecars. If you do some homework you will find Jimbo's to have an excellent reputation of quality workmanship and service. He has been restoring CJ's and transplanting BMW engines for quite some time. This cycle is testament to his great workmanship. The bike just had a complete and extensive professional Spring tune-up from CAC Vintage Motorcycles in Minneapolis. John at CAC has been working on and restoring vintage bikes for a long time and certainly knows his way around these classic airhead BMW motors. I will provide receipts for the service done in April 2010. Service included: carburetor clean, carburetor balance, timing re-set, head re-torque, rocker and valve adjustment etc. She is ready for Spring riding. A true classic 1965 cycle. A little history about this bike. The engine is a rock solid BMW airhead twin. These engines are wonderfully simple precision German engineering. BMW airheads are completely reliable and capable of well over 100,000 miles with proper care and maintenance. The frame of the bike is a classic Chang Jiang Chinese copy of the BMW R71. These bikes are great in their own right, but the 1930's technology side valve engines are not up to modern standards and these bikes are extremely unreliable. That is why this bike has been completely re-built using the BMW engine. This wonderful classic bike has undergone a complete and total restoration. The entire bike was disassembled and stripped to bare metal. All welds were inspected and re-welded where necessary. The cycle and sidecar frame are powder coated. The tank and fenders are painted in classic red. The entire wiring harness was removed and replaced, bringing the bike up to modern standards. All bearings have been replaced. The transmission and final drive were completely re-built also using modern bearings. All chrome parts were re-chromed. The engine, transmission and final drive have all been polished to a mirror like chrome finish. Now for the engine. Every effort was taken to upgrade this R/60 engine. The charging system was replaced with a modern Euromotto 3 phase generator kit, replacing the old school diode board system. Carbs are new. Heavy duty Barnett cables. Every nut and bolt of this bike has been replaced using stainless steel fasteners where needed. This bike is in like new condition with only a few minor blemishes associated with normal wear and tear. This bike has less than 1300 miles since the extensive restoration. The sale will include a spare hub, tire, rim and spokes but this wheel will need to be re-laced. Also included is a spare tire carrier which attaches to the sidecar trunk. Many small spares such as extra cables and bulbs etc. will be included with the sale. During the last listing many people inquired if this bike would handle the U.S. interstate system. If you plan to ride across the country at 75 MPH, this is not the bike for you. It will handle around town driving and cruising the back road hiways, but cannot handle sustained interstate speeds. It was never designed for that. Please keep that in mind when bidding. There can be a significant hassle getting a cycle from a foreign country licensed in the states, but this has already been accomplished. This cycle has a clear Minnesota title with no liens. The bike is listed on the title as a 1965 BMW R/60. I reserve the right to cancel this auction at any time because the cycle is currently for sale locally. Shipping will be the sole responsibility of the purchaser. I will be happy to work with the shipper of your choosing. This item is sold as is with no warranties expressed or implied. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=woYPnyJN1ec Please cut and paste the youtube video to see the bike in action.
