You might think it a little plain; maybe even boring on first glance--but you'd be WRONG. That's true Swedish design for you. Function first, then form. But when you drive one, you begin to come around. This thing can be a blast when you put the boot to the the turbocharged inline 5 cylinder. It has guts AND fuel economy. At a steady 70-75 mph on the interstate (allegedly--okay, this IS Texas and we WERE in a bit of a hurry to get back to our facility) we recently saw nearly 25 mpg in that mixed city-hwy run.Somewhere along the way, the rain really started to come down, and we ran into some pretty deep puddles of standing water on the interstate. How this Volvo handled them was was a true revelation. Cruising along on the freeway, we suddenly came upon an unexpectedly deep and large area of standing water, which, at 65 or 70 miles per hour, sent lesser vehicles hydroplaning; many of THEM nearly careening into the center barrier. But the Volvo XC70 Cross Country took it all in stride; calmly releasing the cruise control, slowing down slightly, with both AWD and stability control doing their thing to make the total event a seamless and calm "non-event." And to think that the XC70 Cross Country did this all by itself, without any intervention from us. If it hadn't been for a few flashing indicators on the instument panel , we never would have thought anything was happening behind the scenes. In our many years of driving, we've never experienced anything quite like it. This Volvo is looking out for you and the family, if you're so equipped. What a confidence inspiring feeling that is, and it's no wonder that Volvo has enjoyed such a long-standing reputation for safety and quality! But Volvos have also had a reputation for being a bit stodgy, so what you're probably NOT prepared for is the understated luxury and Swedish style of this hauler. Thick, hand cross-stitched leather abounds on the door panels and seats. And oh, what seats!! We're not sure that we've EVER sat in seats as supportive and as comfortable as these. We could drive for HOURS without fatigue in these seats. If only our bladders were as accomodating. Top it off with an ultra-quiet interior, plush carpeting, beautiful wood inlays, superb sound system and just about every comfort and convenience feature you would want, and this 2007 Volvo XC70 Cross Country AWD screams both money and smarts! It's an incredible value. Truly incredible.Speaking of value, this 2007 Volvo sold for nearly $45K new!! But the US market has never really appreciated Volvos like it has those fancy German marques, so depreciation is your best friend on a Volvo, and late model, gently used is the way to go!! This one is still under the remaining manufacturer's bumper to bumper and powertrain warranties, with just over 20,000 miles--HELLO--we just said 20,000 miles! It's so close to new you will congratulate yourself for months on this purchase, because you can "buy it now" for literally HALF-PRICE, with what is certainly over 90% of it's service life remaining. You could drive it until it drops, in style and safety...and you might even might even drop first!Because we love quality vehicles, we tend to get rather attached to them. So, we'd appreciate it if you cut us off at the pass and bought this Barents Blue beauty before we get crazy ideas. Like loading up the family "conestoga style", for a 27 hour jaunt to Yellowstone.
