Vehicle Detail

For sale is my Porsche RS America, a genuine and original classic. If you're reading this, you probably already know that the RSA is a limited-edition of the Porsche RS Carrera, created uniquely for America. Only 701 RS Americas were built in 1993 and 1994, making them both rare and collectible. Porsche built the RS to be a lightweight autobahn stormer. Thus they equipped the RSA with many of the parts from the C2 Turbo's M030 sport suspension package, including progressively wound coil springs, a larger and stiffer front stabilizer bar, uprated shocks, and 17" C2 Turbo wheels, which are 7" in the front and the wider 9" rims in the rear on my RSA. Steering is manual, for the ultimate in road feel and control. As Porsche stated in its Factbook: "The RS America is a new derivative of the Carrera® 2 for drivers who demand an even higher level of feedback - feedback so detailed, so precise that it usually is found only in racing cars. Indeed the designator "RS" - German for "Renn Sport" or "Race Sport," is traditionally reserved for the highest performance Porsches. In a Porsche RS model, refinements in the suspension, steering, wheels and tires all work in combination with perfectly coordinated weight reduction to create a dramatically different driving feel." This RS America comes with three of the options offered by Porsche: air-conditioning (option 573), electric sunroof (option 650), and a sound package (option 331). The original CR-1 AM/FM/ radio with cassette has been replaced with a much better Alpine CD unit -- though the engine sounds so sweet, you probably won't be using the radio much! Standard on the RSA were unique black fabric Recaro seats, electrically adjustable, which provide excellent support and comfort even on long drives. Moreover, the seats stay cool in sumer and warm in winter, unlike leather or vinyl seats. The carpets are black, with red Porsche script. The seatbelts and door pulls (to save weight, Porsche eliminated the usual heavy door handle system) are in the original contrasting red. The carpets, seats, seatbelts, and door pulls are all in fine condition, and there are no holes or tears in the seat fabric. The car also has the standard electric window lifts. I purchased the car in 2007 from a fellow Porsche fanatic. Prior to purchase I had a thorough PPI done by Performance Automotive in Malvern, PA, where it was found to have no significant issues. Compression and leak-down tests showed well-matched and strong cylinders, all within a couple of percent of each other. A valve adjustment was done at the time of purchase. To avoid putting on unnecessary miles, I used an enclosed transportion company to bring the car to my home in Florida, where I have since put just over 12,000 miles on it in the past three years. Aside from normal maintenance and upkeep, this car has had no problems at all. Purchased with the intention of doing lots of DEs in Florida's great weather, I deliberately sought a car that was not a garage queen -- this is a Porsche for the road and track. I found, though, that I simply could not fit into the car while wearing the requsite helmet (at 6'4" and 250+ lbs, nobody's ever called me petite, and the newer-spec helmets seem to be a little taller in the crown than my old out-of-spec helmet was). So for the last three years the car has puttered around town and cruised down the highway -- no speed events or abuse at all. Aside from the roadchip damage to the bumpers common to low-slung cars (and a small section of heat damage on the rear bumper, near the exhaust tip), there are no real issues concerning the bodywork. The paint is still nice and glossy, and there is no rust. Seals still seal, the sunroof operates smoothly, and the hood and engine struts do their job properly. Everything works, just like it should on a Porsche; the sole exception is that the turn signal return has stopped returning -- replacing it has been on my 'to do' list, but it hasn't been fixed yet, so I simply use it manually. The only alterations I made to the car since I purchased it were: installation of clear front lenses (with yellow bulbs, of course), which look far better than the original ugly yellow lenses; having the wheels painted white, to match as closely as possible the Grand Prix White of the body; and installation of four new Sumitomo HTRZ III tires This particular car is unusally light in weight. After I purchased it, I had Performance Automotive do a full alignment and corner balancing; the weight, without driver but with 1/4 tank of gas, was recorded as only 2727 pounds! That weight included the DAS rollbar that was then installed, so the weight minus the rollbar (which I removed, but is included in the sale) is certainly below 2700 pounds, considerably below the official factory weight. I'm sure that this contributes to the spookily nimble feel. I have not had the car dynoed, but the engine is both strong and flexible. Occasionally I will see a couple of oil drops on the garage floor after a long drive, but otherwise oil usage is far less than I've seen with other Porsches. A word about the brakes: Porsche braking is legendary, even as delivered stock from the factory. The 3.6 Turbo brakes installed in this RSA take that legendary performance to a phenomenal level. Putting Turbo brakes on a very lightweight street car might seem like overkill...but there is nothing like having 100% confidence that, no matter what happens, you can stop the car more quickly than you'd believe possible. The car, as I purchased it, included: * Alpine AM/FM/CD player replaced original radio * Built-in concealed radar detector (warning lights professionally installed in the dash) * White powder-coated DAS roll bar (now removed, but easily re-installed and included in sale) * 3.6 Turbo front brakes with new rotors (original calipers included in sale) * H&R springs, which lower the ride height down to ROW RS standards * Porsche RSR adjustable front and rear sway bars * Front strut bar * Stainless steel brake lines * Secondary muffler by-pass pipe (original secondary easily re-installed, and included in sale) * Fire extinguisher (w/rollbar mount) * K&N air filter * Teamtech 5 point harnesses with cam locks (now removed, and included in sale) * Custom driver side floor underlayment (indestructible but maintains factory look) * Four new Sumitomo HTRZ III tires, 205-50-17 and 255-40-17 The spare tire and space saver wheel, along with the electrical air pump, jack, and what appears to be a complete set of tools go to the winner. Documentation includes the original manual and dealer support documents; in addition, when I purchased the car I received a partial record of past services performed on the car, and I have receipts for all work I have had done. Please note that the rear package shelf has been removed, and is not available for sale with the car. If you have any questions, please ask, and I'll do my best to answer them to the best of my knowledge. Thank you for viewing my auction, and good luck!
