Here is a sweet story and a delicious car- a gorgeous, totally rust free blue plate Southern California Caprice that has only 45,000 original miles. It was a one owner car, sold new in the San Fernando Valley and was happily garaged in a cool 50's house in Burbank until the original owner passed away ten years ago. At that point, it was acquired by a collector friend who has kept it ever since. I don't know who the original owner was, but back in 1974 a Caprice Classic 4 door Hardtop must have seemed a very smart choice. They were very popular in So Cal and were often seen on TV shows such as Starsky and Hutch, the Rockford Files, Banachek, and even Kojak. They were great background cars and often driven by the villain of the week. And of course, everyone remembers that driving competition between Greg and Marcia in Mr. Brady's 1974 Caprice Classic Convertible. They were wonderful, fine big American cars. So as not to be mistaken for a TV villain, this particular Caprice was ordered in heroic Antique White with a black expanded vinyl interior. He chose options generously, including a 400 Cu In V8, Turbo Hydramatic Automatic Transmission, Power steering and brakes, factory Air Conditioning, tinted glass, tilt wheel, remote mirror, power windows and locks, and even a power seat. He also selected appearance items such as wire wheel covers, passenger side mirror, and bumper guards. Not content to stop there, our original owner then went shopping for accessories. A cutting edge Pioneer cassette stereo audio system with graphic equalizer was installed (and is still there!). Sheepskin seat covers kept him cool in the So Cal sun (and beautifully preserved the seats beneath), and accessory side moldings protected the sides from door dings. Complementing pin striping set the look off. How is it now? About as close to new as it can be. The big 400 V8 starts instantly and idles smoothly. The turbo-Hydramatic trans shifts smartly. The a/c is ice cold, and the car rides smoothly and handles beautifully. The front end is still tight. I believe the car was painted once in its life, and the paint looks great. As I mentioned, there isn't a speck of rust anywhere and the soft rubber trim is still soft and supple. The fender extensions, bane of any 70's GM car's existence, have been professionally replaced but for what ever reason, he didn't replace the corner pieces, so that needs to be done. Did I mention the shiny chrome and unhazed anodizing? This car is just SO nice. Same story on the inside. PERFECT dash with no flaws and four PERFECT door panels. Again, a clearly garaged example. Perfect carpets and beautiful headliner. Everything looks crisp and new. Look at how lovely and correct everything is. The front seat has been covered with sheepskins since new, we've peeled it back and peeked at it with flashlights and it looks just as nice as the rear seat. And look in the trunk- do you see that NOS unused GM radial spare tire? Follow this link to look at over 80 photos of this Caprice Classic (cut and paste): http://www.flickr.com/photos/worldojeff/sets/72157623892389644/ If you love the big Caprice Classic (and face it, we all do) and would like a great example with amazing low mileage blue plates, and never a speck of rust, you owe it to yourself to seriously look at this one. It's really that nice. We have placed a very reasonable reserve on the Caprice and would like to find it a good home. The car may be inspected in Yucca Valley, CA. It has a clean CA title and current CA registration (Yes, the picture shows an 05 sticker but we have the new one). Don't forget that this car is smog exempt for CA buyers. We are very close to the DAS Terminal in Cathedral City, CA and can drop the car off there for the buyer. Port delivery for a European Buyer will run approximately $200. Please feel free to ask any questions prior to bidding. Remember that your bid is a commitment to purchase. Please don't bid if you can't pay- we will track you down and say mean things about your mother. Seventies TV Show of your choice optional at extra cost.
