Vehicle Detail
For sale is a black 1987 Porsche 928 S4 Automatic with tan interior. The car is in good shape outside and inside as you can see from the pictures. It is not in perfect condition as there are a few areas of the paint with scratches and small dings. The car has 51907 miles on the odometer. The car had been sitting for some time when I acquired it. It had a bad fuel pump relay which I replaced and then charged the battery, added fuel and checked plugs. The car now starts, and runs, but will not remain running. I am not sure whether the issue is fuel or spark or other, but the car is for sale as-is since I am an old air-cooled Porsche guy and this car arrived in a deal. Electrically, all the basics and the sunroof work fine. It has a clear title, and an owner's manual showing dealer service records for the first 3 years of its life. This is a great deal for someone who wants to get into a 928 with relatively low mileage and tackle the issues, or for someone who knows these cars and wants another. The car is located in NE PA, but can be delivered to the Hershey swap meet on 4/23/10 if required. I have tried to describe this vehicle honestly given that I do not have much of its history. I do have a 100% positive feedback rating. The reserve has been set low to ensure a quick sale. Please email me with any questions before bidding, but please don't ask me to reveal the reserve. Thanks and good luck bidding. THIS WAS THE CAR THE WORLD WAS WAITING FOR -- the 5.0 liter 32-valve 928 Series 4. Boasting 316HP, redesigned front and rear fascias (it takes a very sharp eye to see the rear section was elongated slightly to improve airflow), as well as updated interior trim, the 928 S4 was the fastest 928 yet. Numerous other aerodynamic subtlies were employed to lower the body's coefficient of drag - the front spoiler was redesigned to allow air to pass smoothly under the car with the aid of a new aero belly pan; a set of grill flaps opened and closed depending upon speed and driveline temp. Radiator cooling was serviced by a dual, infinitely adjustable electric fan set. As testament to the S4's supercar status, Al Holbert set two FIA world land speed records of 171+mph in a stock, catalytic converter equipped 928 at Bonneville - the same car which could be bought at any Porsche authorized dealer! Provided, of course, you had the wherewithal to have placed an order a long time previously - the sales furor over this latest GT from Porsche was not unlike the what we saw with the release of the Boxster. http://classicvelocity.squarespace.comOn Apr-20-10 at 12:02:52 PDT, seller added the following information: This note is being added to clarify a few repeated questions. I hope this helps : Q. Can I (or a local friend) come to see the car?A. Yes, we will need to arrange a time, but the car can be seen in Allentown, PA. Just send me an email and we will exchange phone numbers.Q. How long was the car sitting?A. The car was sitting for a least a year before I got it.Q. How does it drive?A. I have not driven the car. It only runs for a couple of minutes at most before cutting out. I have put it in gear forward and reverse, but I cannot vouch for its roadworthiness beyond that.Q. What can you tell me about the history of the car?A. Very little. I have the owner's manual with some records early on, and nothing else. The autocheck feature in Ebay tells you a bit more about its life, but I have no info.Q. Do you think it is something as simple as ______________?A. I really do not know, and don't want to speculate. It looks pretty good, and starts and runs (briefly) and goes into gear. The basic electrical works, but I did not go through the car in a comprehensive manner. I do not want to misrepresent the vehicle, and I am not a professional mechanic.
