Even without the link to Steve McQueen and the 1968 movie, this Mustang impresses us, a Dark Highland Green GT stripped of almost all badges and looking ready to rumble on 5-spoke 18-in. alloy wheels that are straight out of the 1960s. And fortunately, the dynamics of the car are not. This Mustang works remarkably well, thanks to firmer springs, struts and shocks, a strut tower brace, high-performance front brake pads and grippy 235/50ZR-18 tires. And under the hood, the aluminum-block 4.6-liter V-8 benefits from a Ford Racing cold air intake, a snappier throttle and a redline raised 250 rpm to 6500. This — together with a new H-pipe and mufflers tuned to help the car sound like the original movie Mustang — translates to a stout 315 bhp at 6000 rpm and 325 lb.-ft. of torque, now sent to a 3.73:1 rear end instead of the stock GT's 3.31:1 unit.
