Vehicle Detail

2004 MERCEDES C240 4 MATIC VIN: WDBRH81J34F496693 205,605 MILES BLACK EXTERIOR BLACK INTERIOR 1 KEY CLEAR TITLE Vehicle being sold as-is. Vehicle needs repairs. Recommend to purchase for parts or rebuild. Transmission Failure. Service Ticket Repair Information: CUSTOMER STATES THE VEHICLE WAS GOING INTO LIMP MODE AND NOT SHIFTING UNTIL HE SHUT IT OFF AND TURNED IT BACK ON. HE CHECKED CODES AND HAD TRANSMISSION MODULE FAULTS STORED. VEHICLE HAS BEEN PARKED FOR A COUPLE MONTHS DUE TO THIS, BUT NOW IT NEEDS JUMP STARTING TO RUN, BUT DOESN'T COME OUT OF PARK. CHECK AND ADVISE. After charging the battery, the key will turn, but won't crank or come out of park. We scanned for codes and found numerous CAN faults throughout the vehicle, and no communication with the transmission or shifter module. The engine showed these codes: P2030-004 No or incorrect CAN message from electronic selector lever module control unit, and P2037-004 No or incorrect CAN message from ETC control unit. We inspected the CAN connectors in both kick panels and no corrosion was found. We inspected the transmission control module and no corrosion or fluid intrusion was found. We inspected the front SAM and found 2 blown fuses, one for the cig lighter, and the other for the trans and shifter modules. We replaced both fuses and the car starts and comes out of gear now, but there is a hard bang when going into drive or reverse, then the car doesn't want to back to park. The key has to be turned off to get it into park. We scanned for codes and can communicate with all modules now. The selector module has P1856 Selector lever position detection has failed, and the transmission module has P240C The selector lever position sent from electronic selector lever module control unit via the can bus is implausible. We cleared the codes and initially drove the vehicle with no problems. After letting it sit overnight, it banged into gear again and triggered the same faults. We tried to access the selector module, but something has been spilled on the center console and essentially glued the panel in place. We believe the same substance caused the selector module to fail, and would recommend replacing it, with the knowledge that parts of the center console may break when trying to access it.
