MotoeXotica Classic Cars has the answer, this handsome 1970 Cadillac De Ville Convertible finished in very desirable white exterior with red interior! Long, sleek and low, the Cadillac De Ville series was a step up from the base Calais models in 1970. It was one of 15,172 De Ville Convertibles made that year and 1970 represented the final year for third-generation De Villes. This particular example was built in GM’s Detroit, Michigan assembly plant during the first week of December 1969. It left the factory with the following optional equipment – Soft-Ray tinted glass (code E), a six-way power front seat (code Y) and automatic climate control (code K). Dressed in Cotillion White (code 11), the car’s paint and trim are in overall excellent condition. The matching white power-folding vinyl roof appears in very good order, as does the top boot, which is color-keyed to match the car’s interior. The car’s windows are clear and intact while its quad headlights and slim taillights look great. This droptop’s bodywork is straight and solid, the engine bay is tidy and the battery looks good while the chrome bumpers are in overall very good order but there are some minor blemishes visible on the rear bumper. This big cruiser rolls on General radials, size 225/75R15, at all four corners, which are wrapped around steel wheels topped with wire wheel covers. The tires and wheel covers are all in very good condition. Under the hood is a 472 CID V-8 engine with a four-barrel carburetor and 10.0:1 compression, mated to a Turbo Hydramatic 400 three-speed automatic transmission and a 2.93 rear end. Driver convenience features include automatic climate control, power steering, power brakes, power six-way front seat and power windows. Inside, the car’s Medium Red Sierra Grain Leather interior (code 388), is in overall very good condition. The front and rear bench seats are in better-than-average condition and the matching red carpet is in similar shape. The three-spoke, black steering wheel looks great, as does the red instrument panel and inner door panels, along with the column-mounted shift lever. Completing the interior is a factory AM/FM stereo. In 1970, a facelift included a grille with 13 vertical blades set against a delicately cross-hatched rectangular opening. The bright metal headlamp surrounds were bordered with body color to give it a more refined look. Narrow vertical “vee” tail lights were seen again but now had additional smaller V-shaped bottom lenses pointing downward below the bumper. Wheel discs and winged crest fender tip emblems were new. Exterior distinctions came from a DeVille script above the rear end of the belt molding and from the use of long rectangular back up light lenses set into the lower bumper as opposed to the smaller square lens used on the Calais. A new feature was a body color border around the edge of the vinyl top covering, when this option was ordered. Nineteen-seventy was the last year that DeVille offered a convertible body style and 1970 was also the last model year for pillared sedans until hardtops were permanently dropped in 1977. A total of 181,719 DeVilles were sold for that model year, accounting for 76 percent of all Cadillacs. Never again would Cadillac sales be dominated to such a degree by a single model! Competition to this De Ville droptop in 1970 included Buick’s Electra 225 and Wildcat Convertibles, Chrysler’s 300 Convertible, Mercedes-Benz’s 280 SL Convertible, Mercury’s Marquis Convertible and Oldsmobile’s 98 Convertible. If you seek a big, comfy cruiser to spend some spare time in this summer, stop by MotoeXotica Classic Cars to check out this survivor from year after we landed on the Moon, when fuel was cheap and V-8 engines were the norm.
