Vehicle Detail

1991 ALFA ROMEO SPIDER VELOCE. Good, presentable, solid running and driving car (I just drove it from SC to VT) that could use someone to finish the last steps of this "rolling" project. Dad is short on time and sleep these days. This has been a 3rd car. Always been garaged. I've done a lot to the car in the 5 years I've owned it: New battery, all new belts and coolant hoses, fresh fluids, new fuel and air filters, new motor mounts, new leather shift boot, new in-tank fuel pump, tune up, new drain hoses, new oil sender, new anti-roll joint and more - the usual maintenance like head retorque and valves adjusted. I have records of all parts purchased. It also has poly bushings throughout the suspension and steering linkage, and poly insert on transmission. These parts will not need service for a loooong time. The positives:1) car drives great and stops great. No second gear crunch. 2) paint is pretty good - 7 out 103) top is unfaded and keeps rain out4) no exterior rust5) power windows work well6) engine is strong, with good oil pressure, no major leaks7) no air bag or Check engine lights8) tires are good - 75% front and 50% rear tread remaining9) has no drivability issues10) clear SC title (does state odometer discrepancy) Negatives:1) speedo and tach inop.2) fuel tank gauge & light inoperable 3) accessories inop like heater blower, cig lighter, Power mirrors4) rust in spare tire well, under passenger seat and on wiper cowling5) clutch master cylinder beginning to weep (I have brand new in box slave, master cylinder and hose to replace when time comes)6) trans leaks a bit 7) paint has some scratches8) top has repaired cut on side, and is faded inside9) AC inoperable 10) cooling fans need a new thermostatic switch in radiator11) VVT solenoid needs a new rubber bushing 12) reverse light switch is bad13) some driveline grumbling when pulling away from a stop (likely the poly trans mount ((I have a New in cellophane IAP motor mount to install)14) front tie rods are worn Overall, the car is solid and drives great but needs some things done to make it "finished". Someone at one point completely redid car with new rims, paint, seat cover etc. Original color was black but has been repainted in a black fine metallic flake (has the usual dents in hood from it being dropped down). Comes with factory workshop manual ($100 value), and tons of spare and extra Alfa parts - including new parts to replace the clutch master and slave when the time comes ($150 value). Has a Pioneer head unit that works and plays CD's and radio. Odometer stopped at 46,150. I don't know actual mileage but previous owner said he bought it and speedo sender failed not long after (he drove it to local college in Virginia daily, then garaged it where it sat in his garage for 3 years - Carfax reflects this). So I estimate current mileage at 75K? The engine is strong and does not burn oil. No oil in coolant. Head gasket is good. Leather on steering wheel is torn and has leatherette cover on it. Some fogging in one corner of windshield. Windshield washer doesn't work (I believe line has a hole in it). Paint has some blemishes here and there but no clear coat fading except on mirrors. Drivers side front bumper is slightly out of alignment. A few dash cracks. The car came from Virginia to South Carolina (and has sat parked in a dry Vermont garage since spring, never seen a salty road) - rust is related to water damage of rain water draining into car from a factory misaligned cowling drain hose and an aftermarket radio antenna. If you can weld or have some electrical knowledge, you can have a finished car. The rust on the cowling - this is a removable and replaceable part shared by all Spiders. Find a good one and you're in business. Or remove and fix. I am just at a phase in life with 2 kids and new house/property and little time for hobbies or joyrides, and I could use the garage space. It's a great car - I know "cons" lists are daunting as is any mention of rust, but how many 27 year old cars are still functioning let alone have no work that needs to be done? I've been diligent in listing everything but any questions please ask. I'm a knowledgeable Alfa guy and familiar with these cars. I'd sell this one to a friend as a good solid driver. Ideally I'd love to see a young guy/girl scoop this up and begin their Alfa education. :) Comes w original and spare keys. I don't have keys for the door locks. Buyer can drive this car home. Car is located in southwestern Vermont - 3 hours from NYC, 3 hours from Boston. Pics were taken late fall in SC but car looks the same.
