Vehicle Detail

Up for auction (again) is a 1987 Chevrolet Caprice 9C1. When in service the car was driven by a captain in Santa Ana P.D., came out of service in 2009 and was purchased at auction by a retired Monrovia P.D. officer. I bought it from him in August 2011, at which point the mileage was 43,738. The following is what has been done to it since i've owned it.4 new (0929/1104) Bilstein shocksnew hood insulation pad4 new dog dish hub capspowder coated wheels4 new Cooper Cobra GT 'T' rated tires (still at 95%)new window sweeps, trunk & door sealsnew dash padnew front and rear bumper filler panelsnew front turn signal light lensesnew headlights & bezelsnew corner lightsnew grillnew tailpipe & 50 series Flowmaster mufflernew drivers side spotlightnew A/C compressor & dryernew dome light covernew paint job (2012), incl. door jambs, trunk lid, hood etc. color is 1989 GM PPG 3442 slate gray WA7382new batterytransmission service (new filter, gasket, fluid)rebuilt carburetor ignition system service (replace pick up coil, ignition module)front & rear brake servicedifferential serviceIn 2015, after discovering coolant discharging from the tail pipe the cylinder heads were removed and a small tear was found in one of the gaskets. At this point the engine was given a valve job, both heads resurfaced and new head gaskets installed. Also, a new heater core was installed, along with new temperature sensor, thermostat and oil filter. In 2016 a Vortec supercharger was installed, and then last year the carburetor was switched out for a FiTech EFI system. This also necessitated the installation of a new fuel tank and running new fuel lines. This all resulted in more power, but while overall the car runs pretty well, it's not really 'breathing' right. The symptom of this is that the car drives fine, but when you get on the throttle and the car downshifts, it takes off fine but after a few seconds, while still accelerating, it'll invariably jerk back/miss for a split second, almost like a momentary loss of power and the exhaust kinda pops under the car rather than at the tailpipe, but not a backfire. It seems like the exhaust can't handle the extra boost that the supercharger is putting out. The next thing i was going to do was install dual exhaust, which almost certainly would alleviate this problem. The other by-product of the fuel delivery system switch is now the check engine light stays on. This is presumably is a result of the stock, smog-compliant carburetor not being there anymore. As such, although the car is currently registered through March 2019, it would almost certainly not pass smog, at least not here in California. Other small problems...A minor 2" ding in the trunk lidCorresponding small (approx. 3/4" square) paint chips on each corner of the front bumper filler panel below the corner lightsUpholstery will need attentionRubber flooring has a couple of tears, but is generally in very good condition, given the age of the carThe curved, chrome piece of hood trim which runs along the edge of the hood, closest to the windshield, is missingHorn doesn't work.Very small (approx. 1/8") hole in the trunk compartment at the top left inside corner, driver's sideDriver's window just came off it's track the other dayRear passenger window goes down, but needs help getting back up.Column shifter is loose, but works fineA/C was disconnected during engine work noted above, and will need re-charging.The car has a couple of minor 'creaks & groans" consistent with an almost 30 year old police car. Split bench front seat, power driver's seat and windows, rarely seen radio delete SEORear defrost works, all lights, turn signals etc. working. The stock Q-Jet carburetor, air cleaner etc. that was taken off the car will be included in any sale. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, specific photos etc. With the knowledge that the car needs some work, either too finish the mods i'd started, or to turn it back to stock, the car is priced to sell, with a low reserve set. Thanks, and happy bidding!
