Vehicle Detail
I've had this 1971 VW "vert" for about 3 years and just don't drive it much. I live in the desert. It is much too hot here to drive it during the summer. For me it's a "spring and fall" car. So I thought I'd pass it along to someone who can get more use from it. This car has a very solid engine and transmission. You can drive it anywhere. The whitewall tires are fairly new with about 200 miles on them. The breaks are good. The engine has a new EMPI carb and a bit of chrome that makes it looks nice. All lights work just fine - break, parking, headlights and high-beams. The windshield wiper motor works but it looks like the switch may need to be replaced. The heater has been disconnected -- but the "hardware" is there (heat exchangers and all). There is a new gas tank and gas lines. The car was orange when new and some previous owner painted it black. A bit of orange is visible in around some of the edges (the engine compartment, for example). But the paint is good and looks pretty darn good. The interior: The seats have pretty nice black vinyl covers on them. The dash is a bit rough and may need to be replaced one of these days. But at first glance it's fine. The car needs a carpet kit. The side panels are "OK" but may need a bit of attention, I think. The top: The top is in great shape. No tears, no issues. It opens and closes as it should. All the window glass is good -- although the passenger rear window needs to have the regulator replaced. The rear window cranks have been removed. The battery is new. I keep a "smart charger" on the battery as I don't driver the car for weeks at a time. BUT, every time I do start the car, it stars just fine, runs fine and idles fine. NOTE: To answer some questions. To my knowledge this is a "California car". There is no rust that I can see nor that I'm aware of. There is no oil leak, although like any old VW this age, the engine "sweats" and a tiny bit of oil is visible on the underside of the pan. The car was "bumped" while parked. The car has not been in a "moving car" accident since I've owned the car. The car is very solid, drives very well. Please contact me at anytime with questions. I'm glad to answer them to the best of my ability.
