Vehicle Detail

MAKE YOUR CARBON FOOTPRINT We've all seen beautifully restored classic automobiles. The body comes off, the engine comes out, the interior is redone and every part of the vehicle is evaluated, refurbished or replaced before reassembly. These efforts come with descriptions like "no expense spared" and "better than new". The end results can be visually stunning and financially staggering! Then there's that "other" genre of classic automobiles. They have the mystique and magic of objects that time has somehow forgotten. You won't hear about the extensive restoration, it hasn't occurred. Like an enigma that has somehow turned back the hands of time, lovingly cared for or, in some cases, sparingly reserved for special occasions."Survivors" appear to be experiencing a new found appreciation among auto enthusiasts. Survivors may not be perfect, yet that is, in many cases, what makes them perfect. They have transcended the boundary of time and escaped an onslaught of use and abuse. Where the others have failed, they have somehow prevailed. Their owners may have taken them out of the game early or perhaps just had the wisdom to maintain, appreciate and protect what the manufacturer designed and built so many years ago. This is a rare occurrence, especially when it comes to rugged utilitarian vehicles that were meant for work!Click here to see several photos & video of this 1983 Land CruiserOverview:This USA Federal Spec 1983 Land Cruiser FJ40 is the rarest FJ40 you can own. Only a handful exist. Not only is this FJ40 rare, she's also a well cared for, unrestored, low miles survivor making her "uber-rare". The truck was built in July of 1983 and sold by Gene Osborn Toyota in Colorado Springs on 9/28/83 with 23 miles on the odometer. 35 years later, she has 65810 miles. That's 2300 miles a year. She includes factory A/C that blows cold and factory power steering. The original 2F 6-cylinder engine run excellent and retains all emissions / smog gear intact. The original 4-speed transmission works flawlessly. Much of her paint remains original, beautiful interior with original seats with original upholstery, original floor mats, un-cracked dash pad and new headliner. Inside the cabin, all lights, gauges and controls function as they should. This is a beautiful truck inside and out. The truck sits on a new 4" HFS suspension with 33x10.50 BFG MT Tires wrapped around OEM Toyota factory gray steel wheels and hubcaps. The front end sports an HFS "shorty" front bumper with 9500 lb. winch. Also includes original owners manual, toolkit, inspection light, jack, jack rods, original OEM touchup paint can, wired and wireless remote for the winch and door straps. Exterior: The exterior has a very precious few imperfections that I have done my best to photograph. Having spent it's life in Colorado and Texas, the body is in excellent condition. The truck has seen some paint work over the years but much of the body still wears her original paint. The wheels are Toyota gray steel wheels with hubcaps. The frame and the underside is in excellent original condition and was recently pressure washed with a Hotsy and treated with Amsoil HD Metal Protector. All the original glass is good. There are a couple small very chips in the windshield that I have pictured. The HFS winch bumper has a Rough Country RS9500 winch that comes with a wired remote and a wireless remote. All exterior lights and indicators work as they should. Interior: The interior is flawless with the original gray vinyl upholstery in front and back. A new headliner was installed about a month ago. Other features include original OEM mats front and rear. original sun visors, original 4-speed shift and transfer case shift knobs and boots, original seat belts for all seats, original center console between the front seats with unbroken center ashtray and a vintage Pioneer AM/FM radio which works. All the gauges and controls, heaters front and rear, A/C, speedometer, odometer, interior lighting are in excellent working condition. The dash pad has no cracks. The dash is excellent and uncut. All floors are solid and in original condition. She also includes the original owners manual, owners guide, toolkit, jack, jack rods, door straps, inspection light, original OEM touchup paint can, wired and wireless remote for the winch. Mechanical: The original 2F engine runs smooth and strong and 4-speed transmission and transfer case operates perfectly in 2WD High, 4WD High and 4WD Low. All the emission / smog equipment is present. The HFS 4" suspension offer great off-road capability and clearance. All lights, turn signals, controls and switches work properly. The truck has front disc brakes and the more refined 3:70 gears. Driving Impressions: She starts up immediately when you turn the key. The engine runs smooth as you will see in the video. The front disc and rear drum brake combination will all bring you to a quick and uneventful stop. The emergency brake holds well. The transmission shifts and clutches smoothly and the truck steers easily with the factory power steering and newer BFG 33x10.50 MT tires. Summary: This 1983 FJ40 is "investment grade". They may be less than a dozen on the planet like her. High bidder is responsible for pick up or delivery, I will assist in any way I can. I require a $500 non-refundable Paypal deposit within 24 hours and a wire transfer of the balance within 5 business days. I encourage you to call 515-864-1275 or email with any questions BEFORE BIDDING and thanks for looking! I reserve the right to end this auction early. These trucks are only going UP!Click here to see several photos & video of this 1983 Land CruiserWhy is the 1983 FJ40 the "Holy Grail" 1983 was the final year for the FJ40 in the United States. Low sales numbers due to the introduction of the FJ60 in 1981 coupled with increasing EPA and Safety standards, high import tariffs and competition from Jeep CJ's all contributed to Toyota's decision to discontinue the FJ40 in US Markets in 1983. There were approximately three hundred FJ40's delivered to the US that year, so finding a 1983 FJ40 in any condition is rare. Many have since been parted out, modified, or have simple rusted away. It is estimated that about fifty 1983 FJ40's were delivered with factory power steering and/or factory air conditioning. The trucks that remain in good condition with both options are Uber-rare! Besides the fact that there are very few of these FJ40's available, the 1983 model has many factors that make it the best all around Land Cruiser Toyota ever built, and the most coveted. These enhancements were evolutionary and started in 1976 with USA trucks getting front disc brakes with four-piston calipers. By 1979 Toyota went to 3:73 gears, which gave the FJ40 better highway speed than earlier 4:11 gear ratio models. Then in August of 1980 we saw the change to the split transfer case and updated four-speed transmission, which was considerably smoother and quieter than it's predecessor. The emergency brake design was updated using cables to actuate the rear drum brakes vs. the earlier models, which deployed a drum that sat behind the transfer case and was problematic and less efficient. The fuel tank was relocated from under the passenger seat to a safer location underneath the vehicle that allowed for an increased from 16 to 21.6 gallons. The steering wheel was re-designed to a more modern look. The dashboard, which is unique to 1983, was re-designed using a silver and black dash panel held with four screws to allow easy access to wiring for serviceability. The odometer was upgraded from five digits to six-digits. The choke received a lighted knob, as did the headlight switch. The seats became reclining, the jump seats were given metal U-shaped legs for added support. The cabin courtesy light came on when the doors are opened. The center console, which was a simple metal and then plastic box, was upgraded with an ashtray and integrated rear heater. Trucks delivered to colder climates were equipped with side window defrosters and in very late 1983 models you may find doors with wing windows, which were common on earlier FJ40's but discontinued in the mid 70's in favor of one larger window. Some 83's have odd, NON USA, content due to the fact that Toyota was running out of parts specific to the US model. So digital clocks, unique columns (with ignition lock) and other details are occasionally present. So in summary, the 1983 FJ40, which has become known as "The Holy Grail" is not only in extremely short supply but also delivers more refinements than any Land Cruiser that Toyota built in the preceding years. The values throughout the last two decades have shown that the 1983 FJ40 is one of the best possible investments on four wheels. Every year they rise in value, on a trajectory unique in the classic car and 4x4 market.
