Vehicle Detail
Don't be swayed by the pretty face. This car needs work. It's not something that should be purchased and driven much (of course if you buy it you can do as you please). I don't have the energy to fix it and I would like someone who is going to make it what it could be take over ownership. It was born a Mach 1 in 1969 but almost nothing on it is original. It's an older resto that could have been better. Body skills (including welding) are necessary to better set the rear quarters, outer wheel wells, left floor pan, some trunk parts (all of which were replaced) and some small patches underneath. The right front fender was hit (see pic) as was the corner of the hood (see pic). Hood scoop is cracked (see pic). Doors are starting to rust in the corners (see pic). 1 is a '69 and 1 is a '70. 1 has bolt-in glass, the other glue-in. Paint blistered on the roof. The rear quarters were modified to accept the “brake cooler” scoops because Mach 1 quarters weren't available at the time (could have been done better). Dash gauges go out out intermittently and come back on when they feel the need. Probably a loose ground wire, don't know. Rear window leaks, needs sealant. There are literally hundreds of new parts on the car and many are reproduction. All new weather stripping and seals throughout. Door handles, bumpers, some body moldings. Lots of stainless nuts and bolts and many new fasteners and clips. New brake and fuel lines were installed at original resto about 15,000 miles ago. Needs a new e-brake lever. Interior is “OK”. Reproduction front seat upholstery. Spring let loose on the driver's seat and poked through (see pic). Reproduction door panels. Quality not very good. Dash pad cover. Older cassette radio (from the 80's) has just been removed-causing parasitic drain on battery. Back seat has a seam rip (see pic). Fold down rear area plastic and carpeting is good. Rear seat/trunk access door is good. Floor carpeting is good. Headliner has a couple holes but I have new one to go with it. Seat belts are from a Nissan pick up. New dash circuit board and voltage regulator. Some good news. The engine was rebuilt Summer 2014 and has about 500 miles on it. It's a 1964 289 with a 5 bolt bell housing. It's bored 30 over and has forged pistons. It has new crank, rod and cam bearings. The following are all new Edelbrock parts matched for performance; cam shaft, lifters, rods, roller rockers, E-street heads, intake manifold, carb, timing gear set and complete gasket set. Also new with engine rebuild; water pump, harmonic balancer matched to flywheel, heater hoses, battery, voltage regulator, starter solenoid, alternator, 3-row aluminum radiator, valve covers, fuel pump and filter, fuel tank and sending unit. The following parts have about 1500 miles on them; billet steel fly wheel, clutch disc, throw out bearing, pressure plate, starter, drive shaft, u-joints, front slip yoke, 9” rear end gears (3.55 to 1), rear end seals and bearings. Tranny is a 1967 Ford 4 speed top-loader. 2nd gear synchro is acting up. Hurst shifter. The exhaust is good with older Thrush mufflers and older full length headers. KYB gas shocks all around. Front disc and rear drum brakes. E-brake works. Tires are good (see pic). All steering and suspension parts are tight but the steering “drifts”. Probably the steering box. Has Ford power assist steering (leaks incessantly and not the best thing Ford ever designed). New rear springs come with the car but aren't installed. Lights, heater, wipers all work. Mechanically it's in pretty good shape. I have never “laid rubber” or really driven over the speed limit with this car. I consider this to be a project car and won't characterize it any other way. It shakes, it rattles, it squeaks, it clunks. It needs work but there's a lot to work with. If you're looking for something to do nights and weekends for a while this is for you. If you have questions, ask. If you have skills, even better. I highly suggest that you or someone you trust view the car prior to bidding if at all possible. The State of Connecticut doesn't issue titles for cars of this age so a Connecticut Bill of Sale will be issued with the car. BE SURE YOUR STATE IS OK WITH THIS.The vehicle will not be released for shipment until funds have been deposited into my account if paid by check. LOCATION: The car is located in Torrington, CT On Jul-22-17 at 03:09:22 PDT, seller added the following information: I've been getting emails about the drivability of this car. It runs just fine. It stops really well. I still use it for cruise nights and food shopping. My suggestion to not drive it much is just that, a suggestion. MOSTLY what it needs is body and interior work. The new owner should go through the entire car, especially mechanically, so that he or she feels comfortable with the condition of it. It can certainly be driven away by the winning bidder. On Jul-22-17 at 08:19:09 PDT, seller added the following information: Just a little Mustang history. The 1969 was never available with a 289 CID engine. VIN decoder says this car had a 351 Windsor 4V. On Jul-24-17 at 04:27:05 PDT, seller added the following information: I've been asked about the door tag. It doesn't exist. I believe the door is not the original.
