Vehicle Detail
these are fairly rare and to say the least , unique cars. built in the 1980 in California and sold new out of Nissan dealerships for over $55,000 , which in todays money would be around $175,000 !, the Spartan II was based on a Nissan 300zx and has all Nissan 300zx mechanicals and interior trim including stock T-tops, so parts are easily accessible online or in parts stores. this one has just had some work to get it up and running again which included a new set of tires, installed another fuel tank {which was missing when I got the car} I put a new stock type electric fuel pump in the tank with new lines from the tank and a new fuel fill tube. also has a new exhaust from front to back...new battery, added fresh fuel to the tank and the car fires up, idles, runs and drives, the brakes work fine, the auto trans shifts fine...lights work, air horn does not, radio works but is not the greatest, wipers work, power seats work, power windows work. there are a set of reverse lights and turn signal lights added to the underside of the rear that will need to be replaced, the rear brake lights and rear running lights work fine as well as the headlights up front....only mechanical issues I can detect is an issue with the steering vibration at about 35 mph ,,at the worst it may be the rack for the rack and pinion which is available at parts stores for about $147.00, could just be a tie rod or something but I have not really looked to see the issue, other then that, a good flushing of the oil and coolant should make it a driver,,,body is in good condition with minor chips and such from use but polishes up nice and is a super eye catcher driving around, especially with the t tops off...interior looks pretty good, carpets are intact and good enough for a driver, door panels look pretty good, seats are good with no rips, dash is pretty much intact with a slight lift in a spot that pushes right down so it could be glued down or go ahead and replace it, personally, I would just glue it down and the dash would be fine. all gauges seem to operate fine. It's a rare car mainly because less then 300 were ever made, made by Sparks auto and sold by Nissan. today there are roughly 83 registered that could be found online in total. think of it as a Nissan 300zx on steroids. if you want something different and in certainly an eye catcher, then this is it..notable celebrities that purchased Spartans were actress Joan Collins, actor/comedian Eddies Murphy, boxing champ Larry Holmes, sports legend Tony Dorsett and many others....please only bid if you are serious about buying it,,it can not be driven home due to the steering issue, it just would not be safe, if you are local to phila pa 19111, I can flatbed it to your location for a fee...it is in phila pa 19111, this is a no reserve auction so only bid if you are buying it because only one bid could be the winning bid...these just don't come up for sale often so it would be ideal for a collector. the car has a clear title and is titled as a 1984 Datsun and a plate by the builder under the hood says 1987 Spartan II, they were built on leftover 300zx models . feel free to call 215-713-8913 for info or to arrange to come look it over and please , ask questions now before the end of the auction, not after.,,,also,,2 people were here today {4-1-17} to check it out, so , I do reserve the right to cancel the ad and all bids if it is sold locally before the end of the auction..On Apr-02-17 at 17:07:39 PDT, seller added the following information: 4-2-17,,,a caller in north jersey asked about delivery....if you are local [within 20 miles to 19111] i can deliver the car to you , i can also deliver up to about 50 to 70 miles or so for a fee, any further then that and you would need to hire a transport or pick it up...it can be driven locally just fine, but due to the length of time is has sat in storage, i would not drive far until it has the old coolant flushed out and filled and a good tune up..it would just be wise to do so. caller also asked about any leaks, i have not observed any leaks in the brakes, engine, or trans...On Apr-04-17 at 18:10:31 PDT, seller added the following information: i am surprised at all the callers asking questions,,people on ebay usually bid and then ask after the auction is over,,anyway i will post answers to questions i get by phone for all to see so i don't get the same questions,,,last caller asked if it is a Spartan or Spartan II AND what is the difference....the original was the Spartan, which was only made in 1983 and 1984 and was based on a 280zx, the Spartan II is based on a 300zx,this one has a plate under the hood stating it is a 1987 Spartan II AND is based on a 1984 300zx, the reason for the year difference is they used leftover 1984 nissan 300zx car to make spartan II for 1985, 1986 and 1987...so although it is a 1987 Spartan II, all mechanicals and the title are 1984 On Apr-05-17 at 10:35:34 PDT, seller added the following information: a caller last night asked about the paint and if it needs a paint job,,i would say no, this car has a nice shine to it with minor scratches and chips here and there but looks very presentable as it is, paint shines up nice..i do believe it was repainted once. Where there are chips in the paint in the door jambs and under the t tops it appears the car was a bright red. i googles "red spartan II" for images and can see why it was painted, can't say i like the red. Somewhere on the internet it said Eddie Murphy had a red one in california. this one did have a california tag on it when i got it so who knows, maybe it was Eddie's car...it would be interesting to do a search to see who owned it originally when new. a lot of notable celebrities purchased these back in the 1980s and this one appears to have had some of the trim plated in gold at one time..those pieces should be dipped over again. there is a place here in phila pa that does that and i'm sure there are places near most major cities that do that type of plating. On Apr-06-17 at 18:18:00 PDT, seller added the following information: at this point, any questions should be made by a phone call for a quicker response, auction is over friday evening ! 215-713-8913,,no texting
