I have owned, restored, driven and shown this 1990 XJS convertible over the past 8 years.. This past autumn the engine blew a head gasket. I have way too many projects already underway and hope to send her to a good home where the new owner can restore her to a roadworthy status. I have owned/restored over 25 Jaguars. This XJS is one of my favorites: quick/comfortable/classy. Options include rebuilding the present engine, replacing the present engine with a refurbished 5.3 liter Jaguar V12, upgrading to a 6 liter Jaguar V12 or converting to a Chevrolet LS series engine. The Chevy conversion is especially attractive. Small and Big Block conversion kits are available. Might want to read up on this on the John’s Cars or Jaguar Specialties websites. There is also a lot of information available on the JagLovers website. Of note either the small or big block conversions weigh significantly less than the original V12’s and can be made to perform magnificently. Before this V12 engine gave out the overall performance was pleasingly quick and very smooth. I can only image the performance anyone familiar with Chevy engines could achieve. Engine aside, the car is in very very good shape. Last summer we showed the car and it took a second placed in JCNA/JDC sanctioned concours. Engine/drivetrain aside, the car needs very little. As near as I can tell, the body is rust free (car is from California); a TWR ground effects kit was fitted and the front air scoop needs some minor repair (easily doable at home). The rear bumper/valance needs to be rehung (again easily doable at home). The present V12 engine comes with a custom built induction system and a BORLA exhaust system. The Braking system was gone through during restoration and is 100% adequate. We did very precise refurbishing of suspension/steering/alignment. including fitment of 4 Mickey Thompson tires. The car handles magnificently. The carpets could use renewal. A new headliner should be fitted (comes with car). The top is otherwise in great shape and comes with a tonneau cover. All electricals are in good shape. We have added a triple gauge A-pillar instrument pod with air/fuel indicator, vacuum and a direct reading oil pressure gauge. Seats are new very comfortable racing style buckets.
