Vehicle Detail

Up for sale today as a NO RESERVE Auction is a 1949 Chevy Pick Up Truck model 3100, very complete but needing total restoration. It was last registered in 1976 as reflected by the original plate still attached. The truck is actually very solid, excellent cab corners with rust only in the areas as pictured - drivers side kick panel, small hole on lower drivers side of cab, by the lower edge of the front fender. The rest of the truck looks good besides the surface rust. The sheet metal is actually very straight without smashes or big dents. Fender edges appear to be very nice and both running board edges look really nice without smashes or dents. There is however a few very small rust holes on them but can be easily patched. The frame, suspension and everything underneath looks really good without any major rust through or corrosion. Besides just a fine layer of surface rust, all components look to be in really good, original condition especially for being 68 years old! Originally, it was painted the beautiful factory color of Wimbledon Blue, Paint Code #522 which really looks great on a classic GM Truck. The truck was repainted at one time but underneath the flaking paint on the firewall, you can see the original color which is still in very nice condition. According to the Data Badge on the drivers side, the VIN breaks down as follows: 1949 Chevrolet Truck 3100, Built in Janesville WI, in the Month of July 1949. The last 5 digits, I believe are the engine numbers and I have no idea if they match. I do have a clear title and it matches the Data VIN Badge. I am told that the engine is still in good condition and will start and runs well but needs a starter because the original one was sent out for rebuilt but never picked up. I will not guarantee this statement because I never tried to turn the engine over myself. In other words, you are buying this truck without a starter. The truck is all complete under the hood, looks like it was never messed with and still retains the original GM Radiator with correct GM Harrison part number. How cool is that! The core looks to be in excellent condition. Based on everything I could see, the truck engine looks like it could actually run with just the basic clean out the tank, maybe rebuild the carb, check the points, battery, starter, etc. This truck has the rare GM Truck Heater, AM Radio and side mounted Spare Tire Holder. Of course, it has the good looking 1 piece side window glass, before the vent windows were introduced. A few years ago, the truck was vandalized by someone who broke all the windows. These are very easy to replace and should be regardless of the level of restoration you decide to do. I oiled up the door latches and hood hinges and everything seems to close and latch properly, to some degree. I'm sure they will all need adjusting or rebuilding in order for them to be reliable. You decide on how you want to handle this truck. Perhaps, just get it running and make a good looking original, low budget driver out of it or do a complete Concourse Restoration. This truck would certainly qualify for either because it is not a bashed up, worked to death truck. Performance, Payload, Popularity and Price made the Chevrolet Truck the Best Selling American Truck - EVER! Thanks for looking and Good Luck Bidding!
