Vehicle Detail

A rare piece of car history waiting for your touch to bring back to its glory. This is a perfect Spring project. Won unofficial People’s Choice best 1800E at Cate’s Park in the 90’s. Restore for your own or as an investment.Does not drive at present. Towing required. The 1970 Volvo 1800e left the Gothenburg factory with its first owner who subsequently drove the car to Turkey and Greece. It lived there for several years before he brought it to the BC interior. The car later fell to his son who had a Vancouver shop lightly restore the vehicle in 1986. The new Silkkins paint was immaculate with a slightly deeper tone richer than the factory white. I first saw the car in the restoration shop’s window, on Slocan just off Commercial Drive. In the mid nineties a friend and I stopped at Cates Park on a day that happened to coincide with the Volvo Club of BC owner’s annual meet. I parked the car among its stablemates, left the windows and bonnet open and walked off into the park. On returning to the car the Chapter’s President, Greg Morris, informed us that the car was the unofficial Peoples Choice for Best 1800 of the day, Greg also had some knowledge of the car’s history. Among the rusted parts remain many good components. It has a strong positraction rear end, good clutch, 5 speed transmission with a sweet stalk mounted electronic overdrive switch, decent four wheel disks, reasonable Yokohama rubber, and nearly new KYB shocks. The chrome, exhaust system, pipes, suspension, and accessories seem to be solid too. 1970 was the first year Volvo employed a Bosch computer controlled fuel injection system, hence the “e” in 1800, that is all in good order. The engine’s bottom end however needs new bearings, and if the car is to see another chapter it will need a proper restoration, Wolf Steel and others manufacture the requisite OEM frame rails and panels. It was last driven November 2015 to its current location.
