Very solid 1962 AMC Rambler Classic six, 4 door sedan for restoration, parts or modifying. Car is very near a complete unit. AMC model number is 6215. This car sat for over 40 years on a concrete pad and is quite solid with some rust out under the front sides of the floor, where the normal AMC rust resides. But it isnt very bad and can be easily welded up with some flat sheet metal. I was going to drop a 289 Ford drivetrain set up in it from the radiator to the rear, but realized that with the factory torque tube set up, it isnt in my budget to do as I would have to weld up the rear suspension quite extensively. So, decided to see if anyone out there wants this project. Condition--- Car has a froze up 196 OHV cast iron engine. I have the cylinders soaking but it will be a while before they (if they) free up. And when they do, it will need to be rebuilt anyway. Engine kit with pistons are available for this. The car rolls and steers. The car has the push button transmission which I was able to get into neutral / non parked status, and I disassembled the front brakes, the rear brakes were not grabbing, so they have not been touched. I bought a set of used tires, removed all the deteriorated ones and mounted them on very solid rims. The underside is clean and solid, as it was undercoated heavily, and some areas of undercoating are falling off and you can see the galvanized dip on the surface. The rear floor pans have some weakness and rust out but a pair of replacement pieces for those areas are $130 a pair. The gas tank filler tube on the bottom side, rusted out at the entry to the tank so it will need repaired. The body is dinged and dented as this car was used by a power company its first 6 years of life. Car is a plain jane corporate (Illinois Power) ordered vehicle with a special paint code and no radio, no power brakes, no power steering etc... See the pic of the safe driving sign attached to the dash. Had full rubber mats in the interior and trunk, but I removed them due to being tore up by rodents. Car has oxidized and pitted chrome, all glass is fantastic shape, stainless is in nice condition, emblems are oxidized but complete and unbroken, hood took a small impact right on the edge, front grille is complete etc... Trunk opens and closes currently with a wire but I have an NOS key and lock set for it. Also, I put a new trunk latch in to replace the frozen up one. The rear center took a small hit down low at one time. But trunk lid functions fine. Corner gutter area of trunk, by the bottom of the rear window, sustained rust out (see pics) but I cut some metal patches and seam sealed it at the worst areas, just in case the car had to sit outside this winter. Center of rear bumper has a slight bend in it. All door glass rolls up and down and all doors open. Some of the door locks are froze. There is an ignition key and it does turn in the switch. Glove box door opens and the actual box is still intact. Interior needs complete gone through, but the headliner is pretty nice for original, seat bottoms and backs are complete just shot. Other then that plan on lots of elbow grease and patience to restore this. I am not trying to cover up anything, it is a car worth saving and I am open to offers. I have a clear, current Iowa title in my name, plus a copy of the title from 1968 when it was sold to the second owner. Contact with any questions. Thanks.On Feb-09-17 at 14:07:46 PST, seller added the following information: Area where front fenders meet cowl-firewall extremely solid. Was undercoated heavy in those areas way back when. Some pin hole rust on the very top of each front fender, near the rear but nothing of consequence. Rear frame rails have some surface rust but do not show any total rust through.
