This Comanche is in great condition considering it’s now 26 years old. I have owned it for approximately 12 years now and have only put 14,000 or so miles on it since I’ve owned it. I’ve had many plans to lift it, modify it, and off-road it but never have. I have used it mostly to haul garbage to the dump and pick up some building materials every now and then. But mostly, it just sits. I currently have no plans to do anything to it. There are two ways to destroy a car, drive it too much and don’t drive it at all. I don’t want this beauty sitting around anymore going to waste. If you want to buy this truck and polish it up and put leather seats in it to have the best looking MJ daily driver around, this is an excellent candidate. Or, if you are looking to get rid of the entire stock suspension, lift it, and off-road the stew out of it, it’s ready for that too. This thing can go either way. So let’s get into the details. I’ll start off with the cons:- The body is straight and for the most part clean. It has its fair share of rock chips, nicks, and minor scratches, but overall the paint is in pretty good shape.- There is some paint missing on the cowl on the passenger side just behind the hood (seen in the pics). This happened several years ago when I believe the hood somehow got out of alignment. When the hood is opened it slightly catches this area and has resulted in some of the paint chipping away.- On the bottom side of the driver door there is some rust along the pinch seam. For the majority of it, it is only on the inside, but a few inches of are on the outside as well. I don’t think it is rusted all the way through or else it would be crumbling off when you grab it.- One of the lights that sit over the upper seat belt attachment hangs out by the wire. The light works, but some of the small tabs around edge of the housing have snapped off, so it doesn’t stay seated in the trim panel.- The radio that is currently installed is basically garbage. I bought it used after the factory radio took a dump. It barely works, but it is simply there as a place holder and to show you that the radio plugs actually work.- The fan control switch for the AC only works in the high position.- The parking brake hardware works, with the exception of the pedal itself. When you push down on it, you can feel it trying to catch, and sometimes it will. But most of the time the teeth that are supposed to grab will slip.- The turn signals work, except when you have the left signal on, it will not return automatically when you straighten the wheel, you have to manually turn it off.- It is missing the mechanical fan shroud. THE PROS:- It only has 115,605 original miles! (this, of course is subject to slight change due to any test drives or moving it around)- It has the high output 4.0.- The interior is in excellent condition.- The headliner looks brand new, it was replaced a few years ago.- The AC has an r-134 conversion kit on it and has been recently recharged and blows nice and cold.- The cruise control works.- The clock works.- The oil and filter were changed within the last two months and it has had less than 50 miles on it since.- All the front brake hardware has been replaced. Last December the driver’s side front caliper seized up, so several months ago I had the calipers, pads, rotors, and hoses replaced.- The four wheel drive works in both high and low, just as it should. - New windshield wipers.- I has a very sturdy aftermarket front winch bumper on it. You can run into a tree at decent speed and this thing will take a punch. I had it on an ’89 Cherokee I used to own. When it was on that XJ I used it to push down an old playhouse that was on 4X4 posts buried in the ground. And before you judge me for pushing down a kid’s playhouse, it was in the backyard of a house I owned before I even had kids.- The tires are pretty old, but because of the lack of mileage they still have 50% or better tread on them.- It has a cleanable, reusable air filter, like a K&N, I think it’s a Fram.- The muffler and tailpipe are only a few years old and still in excellent condition. - It has a fairly new alternator. I replaced it within the last year or two.- The factory fog light wires and both sides of the waterproof plugs are still there. All you have to do is splice in your set of aftermarket lights and you can control them with the factory switch. - A Haynes manual comes with it. - There are gray all weather rubber mats in both floorboards. - It’s a short bed.- Still has a decent spare tire under the bed. I have never actually taken it down, so even though it still looks to be in good shape, it’s probably flat.- Overall this thing runs and drives very well, given its age. The longest trip (and only drive over 100 miles round trip this thing has taken since I owned it) was to drive it from Tennessee to North Carolina a couple years ago. It made the trip without issue. Even getting stuck in Atlanta rush hour traffic in mid-summer for almost two hours, it only got slightly over normal temperature when sitting still for long periods. I averaged about 20mpg on that trip and am getting about 16-17 around town. I don’t think you will be disappointed with this truck. There aren’t a lot of ’91 MJs out there, especially in this good of condition. This truck is sold as is with no warranties. If you are in the area and want to test drive it, you can. I ask that you give me a day or two notice. It currently doesn’t have a valid tag on it, so I will have to get a temporary tag to be able to drive it. So I have copied and pasted here in the details section so you can see it: Q: Underneath the truck is there any rust in floor pans, cab corners, rockers, body mounts, back of rocker panels, etc. Your truck looks nice in photosThanks A: I found one spot in any of the areas that you mentioned and that is shown in the photo I attached. Just in case you need a little orientation, this is just behind the front passenger side tire where the fender flare wraps up under the rocker panel. There is a small patch of paint missing and some very light surface rust. It's not even close to eating into the metal. There was some rust behind the rear leaf spring shackles where the frame rails form an upside down U shape. It was just on the underside and has not created any damage of any kind. Other than that, just on what I would consider the normal areas, the leaf springs, some surface rust on the driveshafts, the shocks are pretty rusty, but all the body panels/sheet metal look pretty good. I hope the photo shows the area well enough, it was dark outside when I took it so the flash went off and being so close it kind of washes the picture out.
