But if you are a car guy maybe they are defined by the cars you drove or coveted. Such is the case with the car we have here… and my friend that owns it. This is an absolutely wonderful restoration of a very original Southern California Survivor Bronco. This Light Lime/Yellow on White 1972 Bronco is an All American all the way. What could represent strong and durable better than this wonderful off-roader from the early days of SUV’s. This Bronco was restored by good friend here in California over the last year. When he bought it and the title will verify it had 58K miles. My friend is the third owner and it now shows 61813 as of the day I shot the pictures. We truly believe this to be the original miles as the engine was in terrific shape when it was removed and inspected for rebuild. The original paint was old and faded but presentable (see pictures). There was not one spot of rust on this truck that we could find. BODY & PAINT Green is always an interesting color to get right and a really hard color to shoot for pictures depending on the light outside and the color of the sky. However, with this gorgeous Light Green/Yellow it was really quite easy to showcase, even in the bright sunlight of mid-day. In either case this is a simply stunning combination on this truck. Totally a color that one would have thought would come on these cars in the early seventies. The original color was a light yellow and just didn’t give this Bronco any “pop”. I have also included some pictures of the car before Steve did the exterior restoration, just so you can see how straight and rust free the original body was. That was the original paint on the car, with the exception of the hood. This newer-look green is one of the best colors I have ever seen on a vintage Bronco. The paint work is wonderfully applied over excellent bodywork using a two-stage urethane. The paint is smooth, deep and mirror like. The paint on a scale of 1-10 is a solid 9.5. The body on this truck is stunning. I can find no evidence of bondo anywhere on the vehicle after taking my magnet to almost every inch of the car. The body panels are all perfectly flat. The doors, hood and rear gate gaps are all within microns of each other in width. The pictures display every single shut line and I think you will agree. Note, the closing edge of the doors have a black vinyl strip and makes the gap look larger in the pictures, but in fact the gaps are spot on. This appears to be a never hit body. The original hardtop comes with the car and can be seen in the pictures that were taken before the restoration. And just in case you’re wondering, yes, it runs even better than it looks. The current owner has a little perfectionist in him, and to say this car has been sorted by a master car connoisseur is an understatement. The Ford 302 2-barrel was completely gone through less than 2000 miles ago. A valve job was performed and the carb was completely rebuilt. There is a brand new distributor coil and wires as well. A brand new fuel pump, fuel lines and filter were added. A new 4-Core Radiator Aluminum Radiator and silicone hoses was installed. It simply starts, idles and drives down the road effortlessly with as much power as a Bronco should ever have. It is a correct Ford 3-speed manual trans to match the engine and all the shift linkage is brand new and shifts smooth and effortless. The entire package performs flawlessly and gallops down the road at 70 mph with ease. Now these old Broncos are notorious for drifting aimlessly like a covered wagon on steroids down the freeway, not the case here with this completely new suspension from front to back. Braking is strong and reliable and all four drums were attended to. The entire braking system has been completely gone through and has a power brake booster to add to the stopping power. The Undercarriage is nicely detailed and will reflect no rust anywhere to be found. The vehicle sits dead level. There are no leaks. The overall ride quality is amazing and the truck tracks down the road straight and true. Six new shocks were added recently. A brand new steering column was added to give it a great driving feel down the road and in tight spaces. Inside, you’ll find one spectacular interior. The White Vinyl Upholstery looks just right next to the custom wood interior pieces. The floors have been Rhino-lined when the paint was applied and add a totally clean look to the overall interior package. Steve has just a little Cowboy in him and added a pistol-grip shift handle to the 4-wheel drive shift mechanism and a couple of bullets on the dash. These things are all easily removed if not your style. There are a couple of Ammo Boxes in the rear next to the seat, but I didn’t get a really good picture of the set-up, but it’s really cool and the speakers are mounted to the sides of the boxes. The Center Console is really awesome and has a huge locking box for storing of all kinds of stuff. Just to the front of the locking box is the cleverly installed stereo system. It’s an Alpine System with USB and a CD player. Driving this Bronco is a dream, it has plenty of get up and go and tracks down the road straight and true. Every single component of this vehicle is in tip-top shape. Nothing was left to chance in the restoration of this Bronco. Handsome, fast, and mechanically sorted to perfection, this Bronco is exactly the kind of car we all wish we could own.
