Vehicle Detail

I'm assisting my father with the sale of his very unusual 1984 Jaguar XJS, factory-built with Jaguar's 6 cylinder AJ6 engine and a Getrag 5-speed manual transmission. It's not in running condition and is available as a candidate for restoration only. About this ModelJaguar shipped only about 24 demo cars of this version to the US, of which this is one. They were used exclusively by Jaguar staff and never sold in the US except by auction to Jaguar employees. The 3.6 liter AJ6 is a 24-valve, inline six cylinder engine developed in the early 80s, an evolution of the venerable XK engines dating back to the 1940s. With dual overhead cams and four valves per cylinder, the engine delivers about 221 hp and requires a distinctive, muscular bonnet bulge to clear the camshaft cover (unlike its V12 brethren). This is a far more economical, efficient engine than the V12, and makes for a wonderful daily driver. It's also far easier to work on, with fewer cylinders and more room in the engine bay. The AJ6 (and later AJ16) was used in a number of Jaguar saloons sold in the US and parts are readily available. Like any true gentleman's touring machine, the car boasts a factory-shipped, sporty, 5-speed manual transmission--something Jaguar never offered for sale in the US in any XJS. About this Car My father, a proud old Englishman, purchased this car on consignment form a dealer who was selling it on behalf of a Jaguar employee who owned the car previously. My father used this car (and his Range Rover) as a daily driver until it developed a brake pressure problem about 10 years ago. Shortly thereafter, he moved out of his house and placed the car in storage where it remained until recently. The car looks decent, but has considerable rust and rot in some body panels, especially around the trunk and on the frame and chassis near the driver side front wheel. The interior leather and carpeting is very clean apart from a few split seams in the seats and it has a classic Moto-Lita steering wheel. The robust engine was in excellent running condition when parked with a low 108,278 miles on it, but currently does not start. It has spark, but it doesn't seem to be getting fuel and will likely need the fuel system flushed. Be advised: this car will need full restoration. It is not sold as a daily driver. However, it's a highly unusual car in the North American market and has an interesting history. It presents a rare opportunity for the true British auto enthusiast and collector. Sale includes some spare parts, including a set of 4 spare wheels (same style as pictured on car).
