Up for action is this close to original 1937 Plymouth P4 Business Coupe. This 37 Plymouth has a newer 1954, 230 cubic inch flathead six engine that replaced the original 201 cubic inch. Physically it looks the same but has 18 more horse power. The Plymouth starts, runs and stops. The engine runs very well, no noise or smoke. The three speed manual stick transmission and rear differential work well. I have had this car for almost ten years with the hopes of updating the drive train. I have too many projects and the Plymouth has just been setting in the garage only being driven one to four miles a month. So it is time for a new home for the Plymouth. I got the Plymouth from my father-in-law who purchased it in Oregon in 1987. He did a lot of improvements to the Plymouth including body and paint, full upholstery, bumpers, and running boards to mention a few. The paint looks better in the pictures than it is. The Plymouth was driven often from 1987 until I got it in 2007, so the paint has some chips, scratches and small dents, nothing major. There is some body filler cracking above the upper corners of the trunk on the body. It is a very thin coat probably covering the leaded body seams. There is a couple of small spots of rust on the lower part of the trunk lid. The tires have tread except for the spare and they all hold air. The driver side rear tire white wall has been painted on the tire :-). The headlights, tail lights, license plate light and brake lights work. The dome light does not work. All the glass is good except the driver wind wing vent window is cracked. The horn is missing but all the wiring is there. The heater defroster works well. The windshield wipers are the vacuum type. They work but not very well. The temp, oil, amp, and fuel gauges work and the speedometer works also. Most of the painted-on numbers in the gauges and speedometer have flaked off. The generator and starter have been replaced. The battery case was rebuilt at some time but there is no metal cover. A rubber mat covers the battery. The transmission and rear end leak some 90 wt. The exhaust system is in good shape. The kingpins have some play. The tie rod ends are new. The Plymouth has a 6-volt positive ground electrical system. The rubber boots on the drive shaft need replaced. Please look at the pictures and feel to ask questions. The Plymouth is not registered but is on a non-operational status with DMV and has no back fees owed. The title is a clear California title and yes, the V.I.N number matches. The 1937 California license plates are Y.O.M (year of manufacture plates) which are assigned to the Plymouth and are the legal plates with no restrictions. If you live in California the Y.O.M plates may be transferred to you and you can keep them on the Plymouth or sell them. To the best of my knowledge, if you live out of state, I think the plates can be transferred to you. If not $100.00 will be refunded and I will keep the Plates. Please check the California Department of Motor Vehicles for further information on “Year of manufacture plates”. All shipping arrangements are the responsibility of the buyer.
