That the 'dawn of motoring' took place in France is a fact where not many people are familiar with.. Originally a bicycle manufacturer, Edmond Gentil set up shop in Neuilly, Seine France around 1890, adding motorcycle production to his activities in 1902 and that of motor cars in 1906. Gentil's products were marketed under the 'Alcyon' name, meaning kingfisher. Various sizes of automobile were produced prior to WWI, after which the firm concentrated on cyclecars until 1928 when it returned exclusively to the manufacture of bicycles and motorcycles. They competed already in the 1912 Isle of Man TT racesand the 173cc Alcyon racing models won many races in the late 1920's and early 1930's. This nice piece of history is after 84 years still in a fairly decent condition. This doctor bike landed in a collection of unusual antique motorcycles in the mid 1980's, where it has over the last three decades been dry and carefully stored. The paint is not nice and showing many traces of age and use (patina), where the panelwork is showing some markings and a few dings etc. Also the chromed parts are after almost a century not in a nice condition. The inside of the gas-tank is nice and clean, thus not rusted. I haven't made any attempts to get the bike running (as for instance the ht-wire has almost fallen apart due to high age) but the engine is turning over smoothly, is complete, has good compression and appears to be in a good and unmolested condition. I was told that it was running Really nice before being put in storage, where back then preservating oil was put in the engine and the gas tank and carb were completely drained, so don't think it will take much to get it going again. Something really interesting is that the very old brass id.plate of the doctor who once owned it is still on the frame, where his old 'medicien' (medic) plate for the front fender is in the case at the back (see images). Both the front and rear tires are still the original Dunlop 'cord' ones which tires are holding air very well, only after all those years some dry cracks are visible The brass acyetele headlight appears to be in a very good condition and also the antique horn that is fitted next to it works fine (and is pretty loud!).Furthermore there are two new decals for the gas-tank with it. This motorcycle comes with an official European Certificate of Origin which document will be issued in your name and states the make, model, year of manufacture, displacement, weight etc, plus an official bill of sale from my company here in Belgium. Furthermore I’ll make sure that all the correct export-paperwork will be in place before the bike leaves from here, which documents will make the process of importing it into the US an easy ride. -On this listing I’m offering a special (fully sealed) motorcycle crate, careful packing and physical shipping from here in Belgium to a US CFS as close as possible to you at my expense, meaning that I will pay for having the bike crated and all handling etc. plus the ocean-freight charge, where you are responsible for all charges at your (US) end, like entry fees, port, handling and eventually broker fees etc.If you want any additional information about this, please ask before you place a bid. Furthermore, when you want to receive some better photo's of the bike/shipping, or want to recieve more information about this item, just let me know. I accept PayPal payments. -Additional information to this listing; I only offer shipping by sea, where of course we can advise you on forehand about the process of importing the machine into your country. Like can be read in the link, this antique bike is because of its age and displacement exempt from US import-duty and EPA regulations; https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/278/~/importing-classic-or-antique-vehicles-%2F-cars-for-personal-use The crate will safely sail in a sealed container and the shipment is fully insured for eventual damage/loss.I always pack bikes myself, only use certified crates plus new packing-materials and deliver the crated machines in person at the Antwerp warehouse of the shipping-company (see images) Furthermore I pay for having every shipment insured against damage or loss during the complete process of handling and sailing. Of course I will inform you about the complete process of shipping and provide you all the information you need from the beginning on and send you pictures of the process of packing and actual delivery at the Antwerp port as soon as these processes are completed.
