The 1996 Collector Edition is designated as the Z15 option package. The LT4 engine is often referred to as the Gran Sport engine. This 330 horsepower, high performance engine was only available in 1996 Corvettes equipped with the six speed manual transmission. It’s exclusive to the 1996 Gran Sport models, Collector Editions and specially ordered manual transmission 1996 Corvettes. LT4 equipped Corvettes can be distinguished by an 8000 rpm tachometer with a red-line at 6300 rpms. The High Output LT-4 features a multitude of distinct performance advantages over the standard LT1 Corvette engine. These features include a more aggressive cam with matched roller rockers, hollow valve stems and high performance valve springs. The high compression ratio of 10.8:1 is handled by a race type cast iron crankshaft. Externally, the LT-4 engine is easy to identify. LT4 specific appearance features include a red intake manifold, red coil and spark plug wires, ”Corvette” lettering in red on the valve covers and red “Grand Sport” lettering on the throttle-body cover. Chevrolet built 21,536 Corvettes in 1996. Of those, there were 1,540 Collector Edition Coupes produced having an LT-4/350ci/ 330hp Grand Sport engine coupled to the ZF 6-speed manual transmission. Only 751 of these cars came with black interior.The Z15 Corvette 'Collector Edition' LT-4 is immediately recognizable thanks to its exclusive Sebring Silver paint, chromed 'Collector Edition' emblems, 17' five-spoke aluminum wheels and red Corvette logo brake calipers.
